I live in Kalifornia...no way in **** I'd open carry
I'm already scared enough to be arrested for carrying a firearm to a gun range... Some LEOs are nice but there are way too many power tripping LEOs out there that don't know jack about the laws...

I used to sell guns and owned several when an American (I live in a more civilized country now where there is no gun culture - I find it far superior -anyway that's another topic). I would never open carry though, conceal carry all the time but frankly open carriers look like complete douche bags imo... struttin around like they're head of the hen house, it makes me cringe. They get that George W. Bush swag walk going and the whole bit. Looks beyond ridiculous.. my 2c

I dont understand how you can feel safer when any nut case out there can have a gun and shoot you. I do understand the need to protect yourself, but everyone having that gun means any conflict will get escalated into a shooting instead of a fight.

Even though the cops in my country are pretty useless and cant prevent crime, only mop up afterwards, I would feel very unsafe knowing everyone has a gun. I guess I dont trust people.

But yes, I see the problem with only criminals having guns, believe me... still I would be more worried if everyone had a gun. Because even people who are not criminals can become criminals if they get upset enough to start shooting. Human emotions are easily manipulated, and I dont want to be the victim when some idiot starts shooting.

Specially today when most people have been dumbed down so much. In 1776 things were very different.

In Idaho, Montana, and parts of Washington it is absolutely legal to wear, and carry a firearm without hassle. It is common in fact through Montana, and Idaho. I do it.

it is, but I find that I get along with the townies better when I leave it at home

I'm happy that we have open carriers here, and that they do it, but most times I really do find it unncessary for myself. Great thread!

For everyone that thinks that societies that do not allow guns for their citizens. An interesting development in England.

England since gun control

Maybe gang or economics related?

These are just two articles. But anybody can find this stuff to back their point.

The main reason I believe the violence in the US is related to gangs-economy related + family destruction, economic factors, illegal aliens-drug related, and numerous other factors. I will not dispute the statistics in the US vs other countries for one ;our government is directly responsible for it and two ;I would rather be armed to protect myself and others and three ;when the NWO SHTF I would like to be able to stop it. Yes NWO.

Peace. Yes peace is kept with a gun, not words.

Ah, Sancho, sadly, in Arkansas, the State Police have the right to refuse you a concealed carry permit if you have been admitted to a mental hospital for whatever reason. I recently took the class for concealed carry, and because I was honest, I was told I probably wouldn't get a license. I didn't follow through on the paper work. I figured I'd let the six months elapse, retake the test in another town, and lie on that part of the application.
I'm stable. I'm not going to blow my brains out, nor am I going to commit suicide by cop. I'm not going hunting for anyone, unless they harm my family, at which point, concealed carry or open carry makes no difference. I will hunt them down, and they best pray the police gets them before I do. To quote an old line from an old movie, "God will have mercy.
I won't!"

Sorry but that is exactly why you shouldn’t have a firearm.
See, hunting someone down is vigilantism and not self-defense.
Self-defense is not shooting someone that you get into a verbal confrontation with.

You couldn’t pay me to go to Texas; all my e-xes live in Texas.

I will only open carry if I am also concealed. Come to think of it the only time I open carry is on the range at a competition. If I strapped on my race arm and went public I would fully expect a hassle

I don’t need a firearm for an intimidation factor.
It’s only my opinion but open carry puts you at a tactical disadvantage

I have to 'right' to smoke, but I don't.

I have the 'right' to drink, but I don't.

I have the 'right' to carry a gun, but I don't.

I have the 'right' to vote, and I do.

I am all for owning a gun for protection of one's property and safely transporting to and from point of sale and practice ranges and hunting, but honestly IMO anyone insecure enough who feels they need to walk around toting a gun in public reminds me of this guy:

Oh and before you flame away, I also have a 'right' to my opinion.

Ready, fire, aim.

I open carry, and I concela carry as per WV law.

I keep in my truck my handgun and rifle when not carrying.

If a law oficer wants to take it from me, he had better be by my side 24/7, as well as by each of my families side 24/7 , because if something happens that I could have prevented, I will personally hold that officer personally reonsable for our well being, if you know what I mean.

This will be conveyed to the said officer and I will get his personal information so that I can be good to my word.

If something happens to my wife and five children because of such a violation of my rights it will up the antee (spelling).

I don’t carry a gun to kill people.
I carry a gun to keep from being killed.

I don’t carry a gun to scare people.
I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place.

I don’t carry a gun because I'm paranoid.
I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world.

I don't carry a gun because I'm evil.
I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world.

I don't carry a gun because I hate the government.
I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government.

I don't carry a gun because I'm angry.
I carry a gun so that I don't have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared.

I don't carry a gun because I want to shoot someone.
I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.

I don't carry a gun because I'm a cowboy.
I carry a gun because, when I die and go to heaven, I want to be a
cowboy.

I don't carry a gun to make me feel like a man.
I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the
ones they love.

I don't carry a gun because I feel inadequate.
I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am
inadequate.

I don't carry a gun because I love it.
I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me.

Police Protection is an oxymoron. Free citizens must protect themselves.
Police do not protect you from crime, they usually just investigate the crime after it happens and then call someone in to clean up the mess.

When seconds count the police are minutes away.

Reasonable seams to have taken Samuel Adams advice. Thank you

**********note, this is not to encourage illegal behaviour*************

If you are a law-abiding, concerned american citizen, you might want to explore getting a firearm under the grid. If you are a mature, responsible adult, and the state that you live in, does not require the jack-booted tactics and run-around in order to legally possess a firearm, perhaps going to a dealer in fine weapons or meeting people at your local gun show and purchasing said weapon/s might be your best bet.

Again, I would never condone any behaviour that might be construed as illegal.

It can be just a great oppourtunity to get out of the house and meet people with similar interests.

Just a thought. . . . .

Actually, KK, I agree with you.

For anyone that does not want to carry a weapon, own a weapon, use a weapon, all I have to say is. . . . m'okay.

Just don't infringe on my right to choose the other way.

Nice bit. I have seen that before:

On ATS there are silly little rules regarding plagiarism. I suggest you follow them or "stand down." FYI, if the words are not your own you must attribute them.

Yes. Sure. Just don't be one of the BILLIONS that have asked for american help throughout the centuries.

With the prudent use of weapons, hopefully a shot will never have to be fired.

Its just dumb logic. You guys are arguring your right to carry a weapon that is designed to kill or injure people. I dont think the world would be a better place if everyone carried a gun. You guys will argue that in the state the worlds in its neccesary for protection, but as long as you remain in that mindset the world will remain a dangerous place.
From what Ive read on this thread im sure that most of you are very responsable, but it doesn't take a genius to see the world is full of idiots, and you want to give them guns. I can guess that some of you have a gun for more than protection. Every gun comes free with a feeling of power that your non-lethal weapon just doesn't give.
