Ever since 27 October 1947, when the Indian Army was airlifted to contain the marauders from Pakistan, it has been actively involved in safeguarding the state; property and human rights of its citizens in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). Three conflicts were initiated by Pakistan since independence and on all these occasions Indian Army has given a fitting reply.

Unable to clinch a victory in conventional operations, Pakistan launched Operation 'TOPAC' as a covert act to foment discontent and subversion in the state of J&K. Having been unsuccessful even at this, Pakistan has now turned to foreign militants to keep the pot boiling.

The Indian Army is a secular army and its distinct attributes make it probably the only one of its kind in the world. Its competence is reflected by its glory in war and humility in successful peace keeping operations across the world.
