Exclusive: How MI5 blackmails British Muslims

'Work for us or we will say you are a terrorist'

By Robert Verkaik, Law Editor

Five Muslim community workers have accused MI5 of waging a campaign of blackmail and harassment in an attempt to recruit them as informants.

The men claim they were given a choice of working for the Security Service or face detention and harassment in the UK and overseas.

They have made official complaints to the police, to the body which oversees the work of the Security Service and to their local MP Frank Dobson. Now they have

Well, well, well!!! It seems the incompetents have hatched a plan to recruit Muslims to spy on their neighbours through duress. Normal humans use honey to catch flies but these block heads in the authorities thought using threats and bully boy tactics would expedite things along.

Now one would speculate that the operatives who employed threats against the law abiding into jumping through hoops are in fact rampaging racists targeting ethnic minorities? Nah, too easy. I think it is more to do with ineptitude, a callous mentality and a deep seated level of ignorance.

More importantly, it suggests a disinterest in the truth. It is about bullying people, getting them to do and say whatever you want.

Ironically the young men in the article were youth workers just like one of the 7/7 London bombers. Could it be a coincidence or are youth work centres the recruiting ground for patsies? Youth workers are the interface between municipal authorities, the police and inner city youth.

The fascinating thing is, MI5 normally approach potential recruits at universities, recruit from the professions, the police, military, etc. In this case they were not after recruits but snitches under duress. The entire psychology of this technique is worthy of reflecting upon.

According to this article, the young men who were harassed and intimidated were community workers going about a quiet private life. They seem to be family oriented, enjoy holidays visiting family and doing vocational jobs. Unless proven otherwise, they are just ordinary men.

So the question is, why did MI5 approach them so aggressively, what other ethnic minority communities have been treated like this and does this kind of approach normally pay dividends?

Being a snitch is normally considered an odious and despicable thing but you can understand the motives of a snitch; it is usually money and favours. Yet MI5 opted to use duress and threats to establish a network of snitches in the Somali community. This suggests a level of contempt and even incompetence that cannot be easily explained away.

I think these guys were meant to be used, abused and despatched. Perhaps they were being set up to be patsies to fulfil the promise of an Al Qeada attack in the UK by the government?
