Many forget to check insurance records. This is an accurate way to find accurate abuse numbers.

The three companies that insure the majority of Protestant churches in America say they typically receive upward of 260 reports each year of young people under 18 being sexually abused by clergy, church staff, volunteers or congregation members.

Protestant numbers have been harder to come by and are sketchier because the denominations are less centralized than the Catholic church; indeed, many congregations are independent, which makes reporting even more difficult.

Here are a few of the highlights.
US clerics accused of abuse from 1950-2002: 4,392.
About 4% of the 109,694 serving during those 52 years.

Your sources show that between 1950-2002 10,667 individuals made accusations of sexual abuse.

That comes to around 206 cases a year (rounded up)

The 260 cases of sexual abuse each year in Prodestant Churches does not include any claims handled by other insurance companies. Therefore, this number is most likely too low an estimate as it is highly unlikely that all Protestant sex abuse cases are handled by these three insurers.

It goes without being said but, Sexual abuse is a very serious crime and anyone who commits these evil acts should be punished severely.

Interesting angle.

Any data on percentage of claims settled? Or financial payout?

I wonder how aggressively those accusations are contested / litigated?

Doubt it could come close to: (link again)

You offer worthy food for thought.
