Obama May Lift U.S. Travel Restrictions to Cuba, Official Says

www.bloomberg.com

April 3 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama may lift a travel ban on Cuban-Americans wanting to visit family in the communist nation, according to an administration official.

The Obama administration is reviewing U.S. policy on Cuba, and relaxing travel restrictions imposed by former President George W. Bush are among changes being discussed, the official said.

IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!

Americans can travel to North Korea, Iran, China, Pakistan, Egypt etc., if they want to but not Cuba because of something that happened over 45 years ago? This will help Cuba and the U.S. and it will also give Cubans and Raul a choice between U.S. Friendship or Russian, Venezuelan, Chinese friendship and trade. I am very hopeful that this happens soon as one f my aunts married a Cuban Exhile and they want to go home to see his family without going through Canada every time.

It is like Dr. Paul says, be friendly with peoples and nations and don't entangle ourselves in crapola politics and diversions that hurt both nations.

This is the first Domestic Policy item I actually agree with Pres. Barack on. I like his foreign policy and can't stand his domestic, but finally he does something for Americans and something that could open up jobs and opportunities for Americans and Cubans.

Kudos if this goes through!!!

I could be wrong, but I thought that Americans could go to Cuba whenever they wanted--they just couldn't go directly from America. So, I could go to Canada then to Cuba, because it was America, not Cuba, that put the travel restrictions. It would be nice to be able to go directly to Cuba from Key West though--imagine how that would effect the south Florida economy for the better! Even though it'd only be for people visiting family.

I would be afraid though if I was going back to visit family. What if the Cuban government decided to not let you leave--like you'd have to win the immigration lottery again. That'd stink!

I hope this is leading to removing the embargo all together.

This is good news.

This could be the smartest move Obama will likely ever make. China used to be closed until Nixon opened up talks and visits, and of course, they own us now.

But the only way to get a country to become a more democratic form of government is when the people are exposed to capitalism. A few here, a few there, and after a while those with a bit of money start to influence the government.

Of course the US is going to make the complete circle.

A republic, constructed to greatness by free capitalism, and now moving toward a facist form of government.

A damned shame.

A handful of producers, and a legion of leeches.

Go Liberals! You've got it going now.

Ahhh !

I see visions of casinos, dock for Carnival Cruises, rum and Coke with nice little pink umbrellas, and of course:

The perfect stop-over for drug cartels in the way to Florida.
