The Popp's Ferry bridge in Biloxi MS was struck by a string of barges this morning, and 150 feet of bridge collapsed. The bridge was in the open position to allow a string of 8 barges and tug to pass under it, but the tug went towards the south side of the channel instead of the center. As they passed under the bridge one of the barges struck several pilings, damaging them and sinking one barge. Another barge is taking on water. There were no reported injuries, but this is the second time the bridge will be rebuilt. It's estimated that it will cost $100 million to rebuild the bridge.

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The Popp's Ferry Bridge was struck by a barge Friday morning around 7:30am, and a 150 foot section of the bridge is missing.

There were no injuries, but the bridgetender was shaken up. It took about an hour for rescue crews to get Marge Johnson out of her office. Her car was the only one to go into the water.
