Not sure you are absolutely claiming it was military, but if it was, why would the US be conducting testing down under instead of one of their own bases?

In one video, Chalker says he thinks it was US military and that is why there is no documentation about the case. But unless their scientist were key players in the research(maybe this tech originated with the aussies), why would the US be there? Westall doesnt appear too close to Pine Gap either, trying to piece together the military angle seems more and more far fetched.

Using a spare American Redstone rocket from the tripartite Sparta project conducted at Woomera, WRE satellite (WRESAT) was designed, developed, built and successfully launched in eleven months. It was launched at Woomera on 29 November 1967, making Australia only the third country in the world to build and launch its own satellite, behind Russia and the United States.

NASA and Australia were working together on Australian satellite launches.
