MPAA Study Links Piracy to Gangs and Terrorists

torrentfreak.com

A new study by the RAND corporation has attempted to put the focus on ‘movie piracy’ squarely on the shoulders of terrorist groups and criminal gangs. The report, which claims to have been ‘peer reviewed’, seems to show that no matter which gang, thug, or terrorist – they all pirate movies.

Wow... everything is related to terrorists now...

The combined proceeds from CD/DVD piracy and drug sales were estimated, for the purpose of assigning asset forfeiture, at $3 million.

Digital media becomes drugs.

Everything the government or corporate controlled media doesn't like is related to terrorists. This is just like how Alex Jones described the NWO will be like.

OMG TERRORIST!

What the hell is going with this race, getting lower and lower day by day.

Hold on a slight second...while I agree with your sentiment that too many things are becoming associated with terrorism in an effort to herd public mentality and thusly their behaviour, the study is not proclaiming such in black and white terms...

Organized crime increasingly is involved in the piracy of feature films, with syndicates active along the entire supply chain from manufacture to street sales of pirated movies, according to a new RAND Corporation report.
While crime syndicates have added piracy to criminal portfolios that include drugs, money laundering, extortion and human smuggling, the profits from film piracy also have been used on occasion to support the activities of terrorist groups, according to researchers.

RAND News Release

Essentially the study is reiterating what is almost a given - that an increase in technology and the subsequent availability to everyone has resulted in organized crime increasing their priacy efforts in an effort to make money. As a side effect of this, the money made from such efforts is sometimes being used to fund terrorist activity (recall that the legal definition for terrorist is fairly general and broad these days).

Though the effort to make such an overt declaration of it and emphasize the chain of association is clearly an attempt to rally support against all piracy et cetera and is likley mostly motivated by the very industry losing money over priacy...

It's Ironic that an organization most famous for it's extortion and blackmailing makes these accusations it's such a crazy world.

Personally I just wish everyone stopped buying all media till they ceased to exist although that won't be easy because of Bailouts/ Cd taxes it seems customers can no longer vote with their wallet.

With any luck eventually governments and judges will recognize them for what they are although we would need honest ones first.

Why can't we pay directly to the artist? Oh right, they advertise them all so they can be well known.

There has to be some better alternative, a non-profit artist promotion organization where you can find your own artists instead of succumbing to the mass media's promotion of music that dumbs down populations (Radio?).

A system similar to pandora I would suggest, but on a massive scale.

I think terrorism might be behind the spate of worthless remakes, reality tv and other assorted garbage myself...... reason enough to go after Osama or whoever the boogeyman is this week.
Off with their heads and bring back "MASH" and "Sanford and Son"!
