US Deploys Stealth Bombers to Guam Korea Times

The United States has deployed radar-evading B-2 bombers to an air force base in Guam, according to reports, Sunday.

The deployment comes amid growing tensions in the region over North Korea's alleged moves to test-fire a long-range missile capable of hitting U.S. soil and ahead of massive joint military training exercises by South Korean and U.S. troops to be held from March 9 to 20 in multiple locations throughout South Korea.

North Korea requests rare meeting with U.N. forces Reuters

SEOUL (Reuters) - Senior North Korean military officers met the U.S-led U.N. command in South Korea for the first time in about seven years on Monday after Pyongyang warned at the weekend the peninsula was on the brink of war.

“Should it look like it’s not a satellite launch -- that it’s something other than a satellite launch -- we`ll be ready to respond, ” - Admiral Timothy Keating

Looks like the DPRK is going to make known what the consequences are if their missile is shot down or launching pad bombed.

This took long enough to get out, they must of been sitting on the story.

N. Korea warns intercepting 'satellite' will prompt counterstrike BreitBart

PYONGYANG/BEIJING, March 9 (AP) - (Kyodo)—North Korea warned Monday that any move to intercept what it calls a satellite launch and what other countries suspect may be a missile test-firing would result in a counterstrike against the countries trying to stop it.

"We will retaliate (over) any act of intercepting our satellite for peaceful purposes with prompt counterstrikes by the most powerful military means," the official Korean Central News Agency quoted a spokesman of the General Staff of the Korean People's Army as saying.

If countries such as the United States, Japan or South Korea try to intercept the launch, the North Korean military will carry out "a just retaliatory strike operation not only against all the interceptor means involved but against the strongholds" of the countries, it said.

"Shooting our satellite for peaceful purposes will precisely mean a war," it added.

Good catch!

This is interesting to watch the point-by-point escalation. Keeping an eye on this would be a very good idea.

Tension rises as N Korea cuts off hotline Financial Times

North Korea on Monday cut its military hotline to Seoul and put its million-man army at battle stations, ratcheting up tensions as South Korean and US troops began war games that Pyongyang warned could spark open conflict.

Looks like the whole region is still in escalating towards a face off and even the Chinese have directly joined in the mix.

He's right. B-2s have been flying out of Anderson since 2004. The new development are the F-22s flying there with them. The B-2s arrived Feb 25th to replace B-52s in a normal rotation. The F-22s are there out of Alaska to take advantage of better flying weather. They've been there since Feb 27th. Both are participating in an exercise with South Korea that will continue until March 20th.

Um, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that mean a nuclear strike?

Sounds quite scary, considering nerves are being stretched to breaking points, and in such times of financial 'hiccups' the most powerful nations will be most likely to flex their wings. And 'most powerful military means'? Eeek.

I think it would only mean nuclear strike if North Korea had the means to do so.

Its not out of the question but to assume thats the kind of military might they would execute is only left to speculation.

Yeh B2's fly out of Guam always.
So this is just hype.
F22's being there is nothing special either.
Because they are new, they need somewhere to deploy them.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Seemingly so... but the question is who would they go and nuke? and even more if this rocket / missile gets taken out why would they think the nuke(s?) not meet an identical fate. And then you could pretty much guarantee a submersible launch platform would convert very large parts of North Korea into very large smoking holes.

I think it's big hollow words to be honest - a dog backed into a corner. [Edit] - that being said corned dogs are typically unpredictable.

What makes you think the great leader and his family will be anywhere within North Korea if they do launch a nuke? Jong seeing his people as expendable is also pretty much common knowledge e.g. North Korean famine

Toyko and South Korea for North Korea, and Japan still gets the fallout.
Beijing wins.

Dude..

This isn't new news...

B2's have been here for years.. or did you forget about the one that crashed on Guam last year?

These B2s are redeployed via Andersen Air Force Base and in synch with the missile launch pending for April...it's all new.

korea comes out all don't shoot our roman candle or it'll mean war.

how about (japan for instance) if your roman candle violates our airspace it'll mean war!

does NK ever consider to ask the question? we plan on launching a satellite. can we have everyones permission to set up a pay tv network in outerspace?

instead they gotta get all macho cos they are still tight about the last time we wiped their asses.

The B-2s were deployed at the end of February to replace the B-52s that were there. It was a standard deployment, and it was planned before they announced the launch.

They are swapped out every 6 months with B-52s.. of which one did crash here on Guam as well last year.

23 Jul 2008 ... All six crew members aboard a B-52 bomber that crashed off Guam were killed, the Air Force said Wednesday

Old news rebranded.

Edit: I live on Andersen.. I know this first hand. This is just added hyberbole to something routine.

This was something started by President Bush back in 2005 I think.

Pro Tip: We also have a squadron of F-22's out here - they were deployed after Bear Bombers flew over the island about 2 years ago.

Nothing like driving down the road and seeing a fleet of Stealth Aircraft lined up on the flightline.
