New study points to GM contamination of Mexican corn

news.yahoo.com

Genes from genetically-engineered corn have been found in traditional crop strains in Mexico, according to a new study likely to reignite a bitter controversy over biotech maize.

A team led by Elena Alvarez-Buylla of the National Autonomous University in Mexico City looked at nearly 2,000 samples from 100 fields in the region from 2001 and 2004, and found that around one percent of the samples had genes that had jumped from GM varieties.

Although there are "mixed reviews" in terms of the effects of Genetically Modified foods on human health and the environment, people should definitely have a choice as to what they are eating.

This particular study found 1% of the samples they took had genes from GM plants. This is alarming to those that oppose GM crops as fears of cross-pollination are growing, with good reason.

Unfortunately, the study did not go in depth as to the actual effects that the GM samples found:

Alvarez-Buylla's team did not explore the impact of the escaped genes on the native corn, on the local environment or human health, nor did it test whether the foreign genes passed on to progeny plants.

Additional study is needed into the effects of GM crops and until people on both sides of the fence are satisfied, there should be a concentrated effort in keeping GM crops separate from natural crops.

We cannot stop this GM conspiracy soon enough.
This is effecting our core seed source and our health.

Scientists are not being allowed to study the effects -
Read up on Monsanto -
They are out to own you and your families health and well being.

As usual Yahoo is late in reporting... I suspect it gives TPTB time to construct a response.
