I was just thinking about the names given to the ships and aeroplanes and the martian rovers and all man-made stuff that I know, and I always see that those are refered as 'she'.

Why is it so? Why cant it be a he? I think there is a conspiracy here! What do you all think?

Because men can't get anywhere without women. But that's just my opinion.

Kinda goes along with my thread here:
www.belowtopsecret.com...

No conspiracy really. I think it's just because men get to choose most of the names for such things, hence they pick female names.
Whenever i chose a name for something, it's usually male, but if Iam speaking to a male about his new "toy" being a motorcycle or car or whatever..I'll adapt my language and call it a "She".

So, in your opinion, it is relatively due to gender. A 'he' will refer as 'she' and vice versa?

But then why do the men refer to their vehicles as woman or 'she'.

"She's a beauty isn't she?"
"My girl."
"She's a hell of a r..........." I'd better not finish that one.

Is it because, men cant directly burden women, we name cars as a she, and put a burden by sitting inside, and stressing the engine to the core.

yes..
when a man admires one of his toys, he speaks of it's beauty, it's curves..how it handles, etc. just like he speaks of his woman.

I think the sub-conscious mind plays a part in this.

the same goes for us women.
when i'm admiring a kick ass motorcycle..i'll say..
"Check out that big boy....."
and if it's powerful sounding like a Harley with baffles that blow your ear drums i'll say..
" That baby's got some balls....SWEET!"

sorry if that offends anyone, but the biker chick side of me rules sometimes.

Because we are the stronger sex, don't need boats sinking, cars breaking down etc.

It is supposed to be a she. Though the name is a 'he', it is a 'she'. It is a conspiracy against us men.
