Firefighter accused of swiping foot under arrest

A former St. Lucie County firefighter has been booked into the St. Lucie County Jail on charges she took home a Melbourne man’s amputated foot following a car accident in September, police said.

An arrest warrant was issued late Friday for Cindy Economou, who was picked up this afternoon, said Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Tim Frith.

Economou is accused of retrieving the foot from the scene, taking it home and putting it in her freezer, presumably to use in cadaver dog training....

Some have noted that Florida seems to be the source of all things strange in the news and this story seems to confirm that observation.

One can assume, I guess, that the firefighter felt that the original owner of the foot wouldn't be needing it any longer, so it might as well be put to good use.
