Based on the "babies" cryin on this thread, I have to hope someone can bring Patton back. Rather has a 50 plus with training with me than a 19 year old gangbanger just serving his time in the military............

you got that right...but 50 year old dust-stomping legs tend to get fatigued alot faster then the c-ck-grabbing 19 year olds legs.

How is this even legal???

Did he sign something which states they can recall him like this?

I cannot possibly believe this.... Must be a mistake

My husband has been retired for 10 years as a Marine, he is now 50, he got finally is "official separation papers and certificated" one thing was amiss, in the papers it said that he can still be call back as needed thank Bush for that one.

BTW at 50 he does exercises every day of the week run 9 miles does one hour spinning three tiems a week, yoga two times and weight lifting three times a week, and can take any young man anytime as he is a fit healthy 50 year old with not medical problems at all.

But I guess when you sign on that dotted line, your behind belongs to Uncle Sam.

Uncle Sam has changed. Uncle Sam today stands for the New American Century, New World Order and a new empire like the romans had.

Cant believe people are stupid enough to actually join the military these days. Maybe they just dont care what they are fighting for.

I've had some personal (family member) experience with this. No one of this age but with similar length of separation (12 years).

In 2004 the army began actively identifying IRR soldiers who were trained in certain MOS' that met the Army's needs at the time. Chances are, as this man has never applied for separation, he at one point, fell into an in demand MOS.

I would like to point out that, assuming all details are true, this guy will still have to pass all the normal medical and PT tests before be can be deployed again. I'm thinking between the 15 years of not being in the Army and his lack of training on current systems, he'll be either put into training, or formally separated at this time.

Well because is been 15 years he was already out of the military when Bush change the rules on eligibility for deployment, so he probably will be staying at home as is probably a mistake.

But what I find interesting in the article is that the Department of defense is not answering any questions on how this happen and how many has been call in this age range.

You go girl!

Am I correct in thinking that Bush did sign into law that it does not matter how long you are out you can always still be called back to active duty?

Sorry, but I don't believe this story unless he's a national guard guy. When you get out, there is a time limit for reservists, like six years or so. Regulars can't come back at all, in any service. I graduated from a military academy, and believe me I would love to get back in. There's no way they'll let me.

Yup....Stories like this make me want to hurt somebody.

They drive recruiters insane for a couple signups a month yet the military is both picky on the new recruits AND won't take the people back who have already served.

How shortsighted is that?

Make the fat asses stay in bootcamp until they deflab and beefcake up. Put the people who have already been through all sorts of fun refreshening courses and regular PT.

Step 1: Pull head from ass.
Step 2: Double the Cadre of NCO's to train them.

Thanks I remember this littler fact because my husband got caught up in it soon after he retired, now the War vet that was call probably was a mistake but now I am not so sure as he was still under the 10 year call back that was the original rules, Bush change that and anybody that was still under those 10 years were caught into the new rules.

The video says he is in Iraq until 2010. I emailed the reporter to see if they have heard anything else. Being a veteran myself this has my attention.
Pay would be less but I sure did like it a lot better than what I'm doing now.

3 years ago I went by the local recruters office every week for about a year asking to go back in the Army. I was a 91c10 (patient care specialist) and served AD from Nov 1980- Nov 1983, with 3 years of inactive reserve (discharged in 1986). I had since gone to LPN school and felt I could help out. I was told the same thing everytime, no, too old. (I am 49 now) Well. I moved here to Virginia from Alabama 1 1/2 years ago and the weeks leading up to my moving, I had stopped by to say goodbye to the guys at the recruting office, and low and behold, was told NOW it was possible to re-join. ????????? I was shocked, and told them it was too late now, I had other plans. I don't understand the military, but I do believe the story that the 50yr old man was called up.

I tried to look into this and all I found was that they are starting the involuntary recall of Marines. Maybe he was just called in by mistake.....I hope.

If that's your picture in the Avatar, you don't look a day over 39 Dearie!!!

Does anyone remember a thread started before Christmas about this very thing?? The U.S. Armed forces were sending out letters some time after the new year calling back retired troops to fight on the homeland??? Anyways, It was something like that. I believe the theory was that these call backs were going to be used at home to keep the peace If/when the crap hits the fan due to the failing economy and all that jazz....

The guy brought it upon himself when he refused to resign his commission. Since he didn't resign his commission he was placed in an inactive status. The entire 15 years he was "out" he was actually in the Individual Ready Reserve. Of course, the IRR is eligible to be called back to service. I suppose he should have thought of that when he decided to keep his commission and several of his benefits.

This is being blown way out of proportion.... this was probably nothing more than a clerical error and will be corrected as soon as things are sorted out by MEPS and JAG. Although I have to agree he might be able to teach our boys a few things.

What do you think that "Our boys" are doing wrong that we would need further instruction in. "Our boys" do a damn good job and it isn't easy."Our boys" have respect ffor and from the generations past, why don't you show some respect also. We don't make policy, we fight battles. Maybe you might agree with a specific war one day. We'll be fighting that one too.

No for the most part they are 18 year old men with hearts of gold thinking that they are doing the right thing. Oh yeah, they would all die for you. Not stupid. Naive and taken advantage of.

50 years old wow... he marines msut not mind he is slower now, and might need a rocking chair and warm blanket for him on the frontline..and of course, alziemers disease is a factor too.. my fahter was in the marines, 1967 to 69 then reserves for 10 years. I remeber him saying, thats what the reserves is for..in case an all out war, like of WWII proportions was here ever again, reserves are last resort backup, next to sending willing armed citizens overseas..but thats the key..as long as you are in the reserves and they call you, you gotta go, but after your term is done, yuor on retirement then,a nd they cant touch you or call you..tahts what fresher blood is for, those still IN the reserves, not retired from it.
I am guessing then, this guy has some kinda expertise to him, munitions and bomb/shell knowledge or field command stability and mentality..
