Arab world condemns Israeli attack on Gaza

news.yahoo.com

CAIRO, Egypt – The Arab world reacted with outrage at Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip on Saturday, launching scattered protests and calls for retaliation against Israel.

The Arab League announced a gathering of foreign ministers Wednesday would focus on the attack, said the organization's chairman Amr Moussa.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit extended his condolences to the Palestinians killed in the attacks and said Egypt, which brokered a six-month long truce between Hamas and Israel that expired a little over a week ago, has been trying to avoid such an escalation.

"Today everybody has to stand by the side of the Palestinian people and stop this blind military action," the foreign minister said.

With opposing views by the Arab community, how will Israel look in the eyes of the international community at large if they continue or widen their attacks in Gaza? Not a good outlook if you ask me as there could be more support garnered for Palistine and possible intervention by other countries, Not good I think that that will only add to the violence, Thoughts? opinions?

Israel has warned REPEATEDLY that this would happen if the rocket attacks continued. So where was the Arab League then to persuade Hamas to stop or they would be attacked like they are now?

Arab League wont do anything anyway. Just more hot air.

Just curious, what did the Arab community say about the rocket attacks on Israel, before the retaliation? Nothing I would wager. The Arab community uses Palestine as a pawn against Israel.
I'm not going to condone Israels actions toward the people in Gaza, but come on, if you poke the bear it bites. We've come to a place where a lot of us are weary of the forever/proxy war that is going on in the middle east. You know the Israelis turned the desert green, maybe in exchange for some peace they could teach the Palestiniens to do the same.

I agree, your last statement, what would it take though? some of the land given back? a mutual understanding/ agreement? the need for peace is strong and it seems neither side is willing to make necessary scrifices that would enable that to take place

Talk is about all the Arab league can do. With oil prices as low as they are they are more powerless then ever.

I don't think it's just the Arab league that has this problem. It seems everyone does.

There is no doubt that what is happening in Gaza is a tragedy. The loss of one life is tragic, so of course over 200 is tragic.

But why in the world did everyone sit silent while the pot was heading to a boil? Comments from the Arab League saying "you should stop firing rockets into Israel" would have helped. Not to mention that there were repeated warnings that something like this would happen and someone in the Arab League could have helped their brethren by convincing them to stop.

Inaction from them, as usual, until there's something to blame on Israel.

Those who allowed this to happen, and caused it, are just as guilty.

Neither side wants peace. If they wanted peace they would co exist. It takes more energy to war than to be peacful. Fact of the matter is (they like every other nation, country, city or state) all want more. Nobody is ever content with what they have and this is what you get since the beginning of time.

Unfortunately, don't ever expect peace anytime soon. The only time humanity will be at peace is when the last of us is dead.

this is not a war about rockets its about the cultural genocide and social apartheid used by Israel in the west bank (of which not one cm2 is theirs by international law) to segregate and destroy Palestinian social unity. Israel has strangulated the spirit- life and dignity of Palestinians and Gazans expecting them to survive on 20% of the goods and services they received in 2005 when Israel withdrew fully 250 basic items medicine chlorine for safe water treatment etc was denied them and Israel has over last 18 months fully closed this to a trickle. The Gazans now use their flesh and bone as their quill to bring this human disaster and Israeli hypocrisy to the world. The Arabs have the means to stop this disaster-it is the oil- gas-US treasury bonds -withdraw these from the US and it clones until Israel withdraws. But the fat Arab sheiks in their nepotic fiefdoms are as ill feeling and hypocritical as their Israeli counterparts The world in the future will see this Israel control of the Palestinians as a crime against humanity no different from the Somali or Serbia When does human rights start for the poor- downtrodden and dispossessed - or is it only for the fat western world and legal system to ponder over their cafe lattes - The rest of the worlds allowance of Israel less than 1/1000 of the worlds population to illegally appropriate palestine lands pummel kill at will and destroy under guise of self protection a human social infrastructure 1000's of years old is the real crime here Since when has Israel offered an Olive branch of peace--from the terrorist days of the Hagana "to the present "Never"

And we intend to save the world from green house -- LOL
