I have searched online and have come up empty handed for this problem. I have read a lot of sites telling you to avoid this, but alas, the damage is already done.

When I did the outer area of the boxes, I went all the way up to where the lid would cover it when closed with paper. Now I am having a difficult time getting the box to close without forcing it. :bnghd:

Is there any fix for this, besides starting over? Or am I going to have to scrap this and try again?

The paper is not very thick, but at this point all I can imagine is taking an X-acto knife and making a cut around the lid and then ripping the paper out and sanding/varnishing.

Help!

Sadly there buddy, I think you answered your own question. Try an X-acto knife and sanding it first. CAREFULLY!
If that fails..it's back to the starting line.
Is this your first attempt at it?
I'm no expert but I did dabble in being crafty years ago.
Good luck, and consider it a lesson learned.

It's the first time I've done this in about maybe 10 years. I pretty much had the idea that I was screwed. Luckily I only have on layer of decoupage paste on that paper and I haven't varnished it yet. So here's to hoping that it slices off easily. After that I'll probably try sanding it down like you said and maybe apply some light paint depending on how it looks.

A shame, they looked really nice... :bash:

Thanks AD.

It sounds like it may be salvageable then. Just be careful!

Very minimal tearing on the box itself.

A little sanding, and I'm going to put a light coat of paint over it, and it should all be good. Thanks for the advice and help, AD, you saved a present!

It's going to be the two gifts under the tree that I can't wait for the recipient to shake.

What does it sound like?

I don't hear anything...

Cuz the gift is the box.
