First of all, The Bible is as a fantasy story. However, pretending
that it is true, I will make this statement.

I am almost offended that in church they were trying
to teach us that Mary was a case of Immaculate Conception.
It did not make sense when I was 5 and it doesn't make sense
now. Our universe follows certain laws of physics and biology.
I tool health class and learned how life is created in a female.
It takes a certain male organ to plant a seed in a certain female
organ.
Immaculate Conception defies all laws of biology and physics.

Oh, wait.. what?! it's a what?! Oh... a MIRACLE!?

C'mon people. It's a MIRACLE that such a story was fabricated,
written and actually believed for so long. At the time it was written
science was not at a level to do DNA test or anything.

Today Mary would have been on Maury Povich with her results
to be revealed after the commercial break.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Walking on water?! - Physically impossible, even Chris Angel knows that its
an illusion.
Feeding 5000?! - Something out of nothing. Highly improbable, though once
I threw up and I had not eaten yet.
Water into wine?! - Again physically impossible, unless it was slight of hand.
My uncle used to pull nickles out of my ears.
Immaculate Conception?! - Not a chance.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Wake up! "Accepting the fabrication" is what makes it a MIRACLE.

If i had a penny for every time someone has said what you have just said i would be richer than the Catholic Church. When you look at it that way it dose seem it's all fantasy. There is nothing wrong with people believeing in it. What do you do about it? You can talk about it till your blue in the face, people are so into Religion i.e (Brainwashed) from an early age, there aint nothing they can do about it. Billions believe what the bible says. Over time people will start to see thats its not what they thought it was.

Geeeee, maybe she was artificially inseminated. I am sure if we can do it, God can do it. After all we were created in his image!

Or maybe she was knocked up and inseminated via a partner. In the history
of recorder time, there are certainly more cases of people becoming pregnant
by sexual activity VS immaculate conception. The odds are certainly not in
favor of Immaculate Conception.

Hey, Let's get serious . . .God knows what he's doin' . . . He wrote this
book here, An' the book says: "He made us all to be just like Him," so . . .
If we're dumb . . . Then God is dumb . . .(An' maybe even a little ugly on
the side) ~ Frank Zappa - Dumb All Over ~

The "bible" is a collection of "books" and "letters". Some of these works were written several hundred years apart. The author of the passage(s) detailing immaculate conception was most likely some anal-retentive type with some serious sexual hangups.

Overall, the bible was an attempt at socialization. In some areas it did well. In some areas it failed miserably.

Quite possibly. He obviously had no understanding of science.
This coupled with some hangups and so on could explain such
a fantasy story.

The whole premise of GOD allows EVERYTHING to be possible.

He is supposed to be Omnipotent after all.

There is no disputing people who believe that their exists a thing which can do ANYTHING.

They, by default, have an answer to your every question and evidence.

To even argue for science against faith is stupid. They are apples and oranges - they have NOTHING to do with one another.

Even the most knowledgeable scientist may have faith that he will be alive tomorrow, so he has a 401k plan. There is faith, there is misplaced faith - but who is to say what is right? Let idiots (including those that believe they will live another day) believe what they want.

What is the point of wasting your time?

I think arguing science over faith is quite bold. Not stupid at all.

I think it's stupid to believe that one can miraculously become
inseminated with the son of God.

Faith is a word that religion put meaning to.

The fact that I would invest money for my future is
cause I need to survive and live in a crooked world.

It is only faith or misplaced faith to you. That is how you
interpret it.

You must have been absent on the day they talked about Parthenogenesis, reproduction by development of an unfertilized gamete (ova/egg).

Although once thought to occur amoung only plants and lower invertebrate animals, evidence has recently been found to indicate that it can occur somewhat higher up the evolutionary chain (sharks).

And, lest we exclude the "Ancient Astronaut" support sect amoung us, there is also the possiblity that Mary might have been made to carry a genetically modified "clone" of herself by some advanced group of ET's!

I think this is a HILARIOUS Thread quite frankl...

People calling Mary's pregnancy a fantasy but talking about evolution in the same sentence...

ROFLMAO

Evolution is FANTASY and a BELIEF and as the OP said about others, Only and Idiot would believe the fantasy.

I will no discount God nor Artificial Insemination by Aliens, although I believe the GOD story myself I know that Aliens has not been disproved like the evolution Fantasy has... So I say it has to be one of the two if it happened without a male partner...

science and god are not 2 different things. they are the same thing. science is what allows us to get closer to god.

is there a big man with a beard probably not but there is something there. we do things today thought to be impossible. miracles are simply things that havent been explained yet.

the bible is a work of fantasy but does disproving the bible disprove god?

absolutely not.

I watched a nature programme on the Komodo Dragons the other day and they have had this phenonemon possibly put down to an 'emergency plan'gene maybe, so i say it is at least pausable even if an extreme rarity.

Ok first of all, I don't think it 'defies the laws of physics.' Physics, to my knowledge, has nothing to do with this.

However, I would like to show you something. Although I absolutely do not believe this is the way it happened with Mary, since you went this route, allow me to do the same. Here are some examples of virgin births in the animal kingdom:

Komodo Dragon
www.livescience.com...

Sharks
news.bbc.co.uk...

See also: Parthenogenesis for more information and examples. The article also briefly touches on and links to mammalian virgin birth efforts.

I do believe this is comparing apples and oranges, though. We're trying to compare scientific anomalies with miraculous phenomena. But I did want to show you some examples that it is possible sometimes.

What is taught religion wise is what the individual was brought up to believe and at the same time what is said is what the main stream population of that area will or want to accept as fact no matter what the statement made are.

Many people make money off of this because all they have to do is preach and money pours in.

Example is a church I use to belong to as a kid.

Had a kid commit suicide that belonged to the church. The pastor at the funeral rambles on about how he committed the ultimate sin and was going to hell for it etc.

I don't even want to think of what his mother was thinking during this as she is one of the sweetest people I have ever met in my life.

The original reason for funerals was to use as closure for family and friends. However in this case due to the feelings of the church goers it was turned into a sermon not a ceremony. Only 2 people walked out and of course they were not members.

It's all about keeping a mass congregation and the money coming in by saying what he believed the congregation wanted to hear.

Point being doesn't matter what you or anyone else thinks people will always be people and will always have separate belief systems and no one or science will change their mind. Sad part if there is a hell theses types will be the first ones to go there.

There are a few, very few good churches that focus more on the needs of the people as opposed to the needs of the church and a belief system. One for example used the money donated at offering to pay off every members credit card debt one member at a time only requirement was the member had to cancel and cut up all their credit cards during the church service.

The stories in the bible are not fantasy. Fantasy is without fact, a story made up out of one's mind. The tail of Jesus walking has facts. It is based upon facts. Paul just made a judgement call, and he spun well known FANtasims of mythology into the seemingly dull true story to make it more accessable and readable and acceptable to the people of the time and generations of that day and into the future.

In the true story Mary was already married to Josph. There was nothing spectaular about the birth. Even the "Guiding Star" was associated out of sequenced events.

The story still holds however as it isn't untrue as much as it is mythologically spun.

Joseph, the human father of Jesus (Joshua ben Joseph), was a Hebrew of the Hebrews, albeit he carried many non-Jewish racial strains which had been added to his ancestral tree from time to time by the female lines of his progenitors. The ancestry of the father of Jesus went back to the days of Abraham and through this venerable patriarch to the earlier lines of inheritance leading to the Sumerians and Nodites and, through the southern tribes of the ancient blue man, to Andon and Fonta. David and Solomon were not in the direct line of Joseph's ancestry, neither did Joseph's lineage go directly back to Adam. Joseph's immediate ancestors were mechanics—builders, carpenters, masons, and smiths. Joseph himself was a carpenter and later a contractor. His family belonged to a long and illustrious line of the nobility of the common people, accentuated ever and anon by the appearance of unusual individuals who had distinguished themselves in connection with the evolution of religion on your heavenly place.
And Now, The Rest of the Story!

You have a completely God given right to discuss your opinion of Christianity.

Notice I said Christianity. Not Islam. Not Wicca. Christianity.

The total and completely lack of respect for Christianity on the site is...of Biblical proportion.

There are 1.43 Billion Christians on earth. Ther are 1.1 Billion Muslims.

But Christians are the problem. And Islam is only 600 years newer the Christianity.

Disparage Christianity. Fine.

But why? Are you trying to show us how smart you are? How dumb we are? Or are you living a life that shames you and you want to remove the guilt from your life that you feel?

It's not my intelligence in question. I'm just stating that the reason Mary
(if she even existed at all) was pregnant was due to her sexual activity.

Mary is neither a Shark nor a Komodo dragon.

And by that very action disprove entire religion. Wow, that must be exciting to tell so many people that they are, what words would you use,
"Simpletons." Simply not as smart as you.

I would expect a simlar disproval of Islam, Judaism, Zooroastrianism, Budism, Hinduism... before the days end.

Unless this is simple anti-Christian bigotry. Which is your right. But it is my right to shine the light on you as a bigot.

Come on. God couldn't make a woman pregnant if he wanted?

Or must be a basic Atheist which explains your whole premise.

Didn't say that at all. Just stating that Mary (if she existed)
was sexually active, therefore resulting in pregnancy. Oh and
all other miracles are fantasy.

I guess it would be exciting.
It's about as exciting as finding out that you were miraculously pregnant.

she existed).

My premise seems more logical then the bibles premise. Everything in the
bible is here-say. You and I engaging in this disagreement is more factual
and real then any story in that book of fantasy.
