Hi I just read your reply on the lone wolf vs groups survival I find myself in agreemint with you But I hesitate joining a group for something you left out Any type of group situation must have some type of leader or chain of comand If you read the posting of survival groups they sound ok but soner or later only one person becomes top dog in that type of situation And in a survival group should the worst ever happen and I don't agree what the "leader" wants to do then I would have some tough choises to make In a suvival situation the best and the worst of people come out

How many actually practice survival either alone or in a group?

Having fancy gear, and reading cool books isn't enough - actually dragging yourself (or better yet, you and others) into the woods, or "digging in" to your basement for the weekend?

Does anyone do this regularly? Anyone interested in starting a group??

Welcome to the ATS Survival Forum.

As has already been stated, a lot of the members who post and lurk around the Survival forum will/would be very reluctant to form groups from some scant info from someone who is 'faceless' on an internet forum. Also remember, this is an International Forum, so we are from all over the world.

The best place to start is from within your own family. Start a core family survivalist group first. This is a stronger unit as you are blood related and would mostly be loyal to each other because of it.

Secondly, you can then add in like-minded good friends into the group mix. Remember to introduce your friends into your core family group, way before a Situation X scenario appears. That way, they are not complete strangers to your family.

Lastly, if you do meet anyone from the various survival forums that abound the internet, they could then be the third additions to your group, even if it is a case of them using your group as a ''Plan B'' back-up plan.

Once thing I would say is, ensure that you have a good and varied skill/experience mix within your group. This would also include a balanced male/female mix - This could be the most important descision as jealousy and rivalry could upset the cohesion of any group.

So much preparation for what?......

why survive in the wild when you have a house...stay in the house...let the bear stay outside........

I have been 'survival' minded my whole life because of living where disaster almost always strikes every summer. I've learned what's needed to survive and seen what happens tp people who were not prepared.

Since then, I've come to recognize a greater threat, when US currency becomes 'worthless paper' right here in the US, there's going to be riots, looting, shooting and mayhem!

I have created a website which is geared towards helping beginners to stock up on things that will help save them when it all falls apart.
Survivaltime.org not only has everything you would need, but also handy and very helpful lists so you can begin stocking up on your own, right at the corner store!

we here in my area all started by ourselves and somehow or another we seemed to end up meeting at a local gun show.... from there the 55 of us (not counting wives or GF or family members) all started training by doing physical exercise at a local YMCA near here... After awhile we formed our group and we started learning together what skills we all had...

We have gunsmiths, ex military, EOD specialists, marksman USMC range master, and people from all walks of life to include banking, law, medical, and several other areas...

We developed a great deal of in home classes that have helped us all understand different aspects of what we see coming down the road right at us all... not just us but all americans.

slowly we created an entire plan for mountain training, rifle range shooting as well as tactical training, GW, and insurgency skills. We have all completed a course that was given us by a former DI from the Army who is also a Ranger.... that was rough..

getting together is sometimes difficult but we have learned to adjust to different schedules... we voted on a team leader, and appointed people for different responsibilities.

Over the last 10 years we have pooled resources, money and we have had built by an out of state company a very large shelter that was designed by radius enginerring... we stocked it and we do periodic sudden meetings for all of us. Sometimes it is a little hectic but it has worked for us....

I do not allow racism of any type nor religious extremism.... we are all together and we are bound by one common element.... staying alive.

no matter what comes some of us will survive and that is enough for us to be able to make it work...

well that about covers it.... have a darn good day and keep prepping..

Yes, I am intereested in starting a group or joining a group. I believe you can't do it alone. How long can you go without antibiotics or what if you have a badly infected tooth that needs a root canal. I would like to join a group where there is a variety of ocupational skills amoungst its members. I just found this web site and I see that there are alot of people in Ontario looking to do something.

I thought the same thing, than i realized i don't have a gun. If the hydro goes out, people will be without water within a few days, no hydro to cook or heat with. Also no gas to traval anywhere to get away from all the looting and crime. The advantage to living in a rural remote area is that first of all you will be to far away from the large cities where people will be starving and would do anything for food and water. Secondly you would find a location based on a fresh underground water source where you can manually pump water, land to grow vegtables on and wood to heat a wood stove. Dec 12 2012 is very cold where I live. And my house would be freezing within 24 hours.
