Yet another company is announcing massive layoffs. I wondered how many others were announcing layoffs, and just got lost in the news pile. A little research revealed:

Adobe Corp ... 600
AbitibiBowater ... 1200
Dupont ... 6500
Viacom ... 850
Gannett, Inc. ... 1100
JP Morgan ... 9200
Steelcase, Inc. ... 600
Merck & Co. ... 7200
CelebrateExpress ... 200
United Airlines ... 1088
Dillards ... 500
Laitram Corp ... 500

This means almost 42000 people have lost their job within the last 24 hours. I invite other ATSers to post layoff news here so we can all get the big picture

Is there any company's who haven't laid anyone off?
And any that have actually hired more?

My industry is actually doing quite well (food wholesale) - in fact it looks like we are going to make our bonus numbers this year.

Most of the food and beverage industry seems to be doing well, including sales of alcoholic beverages.

So it seems that when people are depressed, they eat and drink more.

Now my former colleague who jumped ship to work for a manufacturer of bowling alleys - not so good (compulsary unpaid vacation).

I am still of the opinion that the real damage is going to be caused in 2009. We haven't seen anything yet.

Food and drink always last to be hit.
But when no one has any money to buy it, then there is no one to sell it to.
People will make there own booze.Catch and grow there own food.
