British among the most sexually promiscuous in the world

www.dailymail.co.uk

British men and women are among the most promiscuous in the world, researchers have found.

In an international index measuring one-night stands, total numbers of partners and attitudes to casual sex, Britain comes out ahead of America, Australia, France, the Netherlands, Italy and Germany.

The result has been linked to the decline of religious scruples, the growth of equal rights for women and a highly sexualised popular culture.

According to a survey, British men and women are among the most promiscuous in the world

Some 14,000 people in 48 countries filled in questionnaires about casual sex and how many people they expected to sleep with in the next five years.

The results were turned into an index of 'sociosexuality' - a measure of how sexually liberal people are in thought and behaviour.

Britain scored 40, placing it 11th overall, behind countries such as Latvia, Croatia and Slovenia - but it was highest among the major western industrial nations....

....The country with the highest rating was Finland, with an average of 51. Taiwan came lowest, with 19.

So much for a stiff upper lip. I wanna move to Britain.

It used to be that Australia topped that list. The article didn't say where the United States ranked in this but we are an odd case... as a society we are saturated with sexual images yet at the same time we are often quite repressed sexually.

I am reminded of a story I read a few years back. It seems this anthropologist was studying the ritual songs of the Hopi. After one performance he asked a tribal elder why was it so many of their songs had to do with water... the elder replied that they sang about what they needed the most in their lives and had the least of... then added that they had noticed that most of our songs had to do with love.

OUCH!!!

As a randy Brit, I'm particularly interested in these explanations. The decline of religious scruples has been on the wane since at least Victorian* era and has generally ramped up with each passing generation. Women's rights is generally attributed to the accessibility of pill-form contraceptives in the 1960s, which means, that we've had 40 years or so of highly-sexualised popular culture which I think is by far and away the biggest factor now. It's certainly the only factor that really has changed in anyway, certainly in my 40-year-old lifespan.

I think, during the 1990s 'ladette' culture boom, there were some changes that could be argued as being 'women's rights' in a sense; the idea that women were free enough to get as pissed, violent and randy as a bloke on a night out, but I'm not really convinced that was as liberating for women as many females would like to believe. It seems the 'Girl Power' of the 1990s really meant wearing the shorting possible skirt, getting tits out coming out of night clubs and soft porn and 'glamour' modelling becoming a 'first choice' career option. I'm not wholly convinced much of that wasn't actually engineered so men were the real benefiters of this particular 'revolution'.

I think popular culture is far too sexualised now. It seems sexualised for the sake of it to the point where it's actually lost any genuine sexual frisson and just seems to have be this weird hollow seediness. This weird dead-eyed, slack-jawed glamour that is too accessible.

It could be argued that sex has always been a commodity that's been traded whether in the classic sense of prostitution or pornography or even on a domestic level but now, it just seems that flooding the market has actually devalued it's worth. The kind of 'sex' I see around me now isn't really a 'sex' that I want or place any real value on.

*who weren't exactly 'behind the door' when it came to sex themselves.

As for America its sexuality boom as it were was in the 70's.

I've maintained for years that if you couldn't get laid in the70's something was wrong.

It was a time when sex was easy and drugs were cheap.... or was it the other way around? I suffer from way too much sex, drugs and rock n roll in my youth... or not enough...I can never remember which.

I think Brits are pretty sexy. Especially the men. Even though a lot of them are gay. I would still move to the UK for that

Its overcrowded and it rains a lot. This is somewhat amusing. If sexuality is being judged by how women also feel less judged for being able to admit they are sexual beings and able to be a little freer then I see this as a positive thing.

Its funny to read this but I believe it because when I was overseas and stateside some British guys would come across the pond to North Carolina to train they would tell some great stories and generally make me laugh but there were a few occasions when we would take them out and you would swear that they were like the family dog when somebody comes to visit with the women. I have nothing but good things to say about the UK and its military guys and personally im in love with the way a British woman talks..Im trying to get Rhona Nitr to call me back but she hasnt called back yet...Im a lil sad because I invited her for Christmas. Any single women from the UK looking to find a mildly attractive guy?...
