The asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs was thrown to Earth in a moment of 'planetary madness'. And scientists can now predict when the heavens will go haywire again, says Marcus Chown

What do you all make of this? Is this just another "chicken little" story? Sounds like all fluff and no real information about what is supposed to happen. It vaguely refers to the planetary extinction on the scale seen during the dinosaurs, but is it for real?!?!

What I'd like to see them throw into the models is our alignment in 2012 with the galactic center and equator... People will argue that it shouldn't have an effect on us, but when the two planes (our solar plane and the galactic plane) line up, there HAS to be some effect... I mean, really... if the rest of the galaxy has no effect on us, why are we part of this galaxy? Think about it... plus, the galactic equator would have the strongest pull area because we woulde have the most galactic bodies (all exibiting some gravitational force) in line with the density of the galactic center. It would be like when lightning hits a plane in mid-air to use as a shorter route than going straight to the ground.

Very interesting find! Good article.
