From Obama's speach today in Raligh NC 10/29

Deep down, John McCain knows his economic theories don't work. That's why his campaign said if we keep talking about the economy, we're going to lose. That's why I keep on talking about the economy. They don't want to talk about the economy. But that's what you want to talk about. That's what affects your lives day in and day out. Now, because he knows his economic theories don't work, he's been spending these last few days calling me every name in the book. Lately he's called me a socialist for wanting to roll back the bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans so we can give some tax relief to the middle class. I don't know what's next. By next week he'll be calling me a secret communist because I shared my toys in kindergarten. I shared my peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Look, that's his choice. That's the kind of campaign he chooses to run. But you have a choice, too.

For all of you who truly believe in your heart that this man and his planned administration are socialists or communists and will actually implement some sort of plan in this regard, please ask yourself why? Why do you believe this?

How on Earth is this mocking!??

He is not a socialist or a communist. He is a big government big corporation democrat just like the others. Obama had every right to say what he did, and it was completely justified. He should have said even more. The accusations are absurd to begin with.

Obama must have been a good kid to share his toys with the other little poor Indonesian kindergarteners.Probably didn't have many toys in that poor third world country.

That was an EXTREMELY offensive mockery of the evils perpetrated by Communism over the past 60 Years. Senator Obama obviously feels that Communism is something that can be laughed at and joked about, yet OVER 100,000 Americans lost their lives in the pursuit of spreading Democracy, and containing the oppressive philosophies of Marx and Lenin. That of course does not even take into effect the countless individuals and families the World over who have been oppressed, tortured, and killed through the implementation of Communist agendas.

Obama is the furthest thing from a socialist/communist. The media ignorance and propaganda claiming this is beyond absurd. I was watching a piece of Fox news' Sean Hannity (or whoever) the other day, and it was outright retarded how they were portraying him.

It was funny though, because it made me think of ATS. They were claiming that he wanted a type of global new world order, and were completely against it.

Please.

He was not laughing or mocking the past. He was not making a mockery of the past travesties that happened under utilitarian dictatorships.

He was making fun of McCain's accusations. Nothing more, nothing less.

Yet again, just look at his Political Affiliations. He belonged to a Socialist Political Party throughout the 1990's, and was in fact running as their candidate. That cannot be taken as a philosophical debate, it is a FACT.

BTW, Senator Obama is a Leftist, not a Democrat. Democrats believe in Increased Centralized Government, and More spending through Raised Taxes which fund More Governmental Programs. Senator Obama believes in this to the Extreme, along with Rep. Pelosi, Senator Reid, and a few others. They wish to implement "Fairness Doctrines", squash our 2nd Amendment through complete Firearms bans, and decapitate the 1st Amendment through the aforementioned "Doctrine"; as well as their current and obvious Black-Listing of certain Media outlets which have the nerve to do their job and question them.

These are not the Philosophies of Democrat America, which believes in Progressing and Expanding our Constitutional Rights, NOT Restricting them. There is a difference, and sadly we are witnessing a European Hijacking of the Great Party of FDR, and JFK.

Funny how the Republicans say Obama was conspiring with Ayers when he was a child but was also living in a poor third world country at the same time...

Are you for real?

So now merely saying a word that relates to past horrors means he's making light of the situation?

Christ sakes, the absurd comments and accusations are dumbfounding.

When people are that desperate for finding a reason to use against Obama doesnt it start making it obvious that perhaps all this BS being said is worthless?

If I believed Obama was a Socialist and not Democrat then I would be voting for him. Just so you know where I am coming from.

Even if Obama was a Socialist, which he is not, will his entire administration be socialists too??
Not too mention, people drastically overestimate how much power US Presidents actually have. Even *if* he was a socialist, the commercial capitalist engine that is America would not permit it.

"Obama must have been a good kid to share his toys with the other little poor Indonesian kindergarteners.Probably didn't have many toys in that poor third world country."

As an American it almost makes me sick to see things like this. especially in a day and age like this when we are so globalized. Im betting if Obama was white and grew up in eastern europe this wouldnt ever be said. But no he (partially) grew up in a MODERATE Islamic society, So he must know terrorists and we should look at his childhood as different. Fir the record my Wife is Indonesian and was raised muslim and has showed nothing but love and appreciation for this country. More than almost any americans that I know because she has seen what is really out there. She calls extremists of any religion CRAZY which is what they are. I dont care if you are blowing up american bases, Mosques, abortion clinics, night clubs, anything is crazy. PERIOD. Well call me Un-American, but I think that growing up in another counrty doent change our values, and poor or rich doesnt change any of our leadership values we develop as we mature. IF you think any different you are the model of the SICK American we should be avoiding as we adavance further. In a country where ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL. This is 2008 and you want to make jokes about Obama in Indonesia with kids with no toys and how poor the people are..
I guess by the same note me giving a homeless man change is supporting his nature of nothingness, and I should get a good laugh at that. That some people are less than I am. Good for ME!

Amen to that. I am always encouraged by those that can seperate their politics and religion regardless for the sake of honest dialog.
(some may see this as an impossibility, but I argue it is always wise to be able to distance yourself from your own "truths" when attempting to learn.
I hope that is what most people are here for. I can't imagine just coming here to say angry and untruthful things.

Thanks for that. Noted. All of us "yuppy scum" would do what? Can you show me your stats on that? No one has ANY CREDIBLE EDUCATED ANSWERS...No one? Not one credible or educated answer? SO. "you" ie: me, the "yuppy scum" "ignore or slander anything and everything."
Christ alive man, are you being paid by the superlative/absurd statements? Are you a plant? I mean, this is it? Again?

Yet you fail to mention the evils and injustices committed in the defense of democracy? How we tweaked with foreign governments to stop the domino effect? The countless of civilians hauled away by American-Sponsored right-wing despots in central and south America, what about them? What about the countless of billions we funneled to these despots? Need i mention the events in Chile in the 60's? how we supported Pinochet's coup of a legitimate government? It's no speculation or ramblings, it's 100% solid fact.

Right, so i bet you think that the trickle down theory is infallible. Because is that what you're trying to point out, right? So i'm assuming you thought the mentality of the current admin has had for the last 8 years is a-ok? Or am I also to assume that the conservative right has the solution to all the problems they themselves took part in bringing? Oh wait, lets blame the dems who have been in control of congress for the last 2 years, even though they've tried to correct the ills of this country but the president and the republicans have done everything they possibly could to negate it all?

I am not a part of this "scene" to begin with as I am a registered Libertarian voting Ron Paul. Yet I still think Obama's comments were completely appropriate and justified.

And fyi calling us ATS members "yuppy scum" is both against the T & C and a desperate measure.

This is a textbook example of the CRAP that the republican candidates seems to want to throw at Obama, and hope it sticks.

this cartoon explains it perfectly:

I notice that Obama didn't deny McCain's accusation, "socialist"
The claim has been made hundreds of times.
A quick search turned up no refutation of the claim.
Has Obama recently denied that he's a socialist?
This just occurred to me today, that he's scoffed, and laughed at the claim.
I'm just not sure that he has denied it. Has he?
