Some Words Worth Remembering

"To those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives; you are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours. You, their mothers, who sent your sons from far-away countries, wipe away your tears; your sons now lie in our bosom and are at peace. After losing their lives in this land, they have become our sons as well."

With Remembrance Day (or what every name the day goes by in your part of the world ) just around the corner these words struck me with particular meaning . They could perhaps also be applied to other battles and wars .

If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

There is no need to worry for we have not lost faith with those who sleep in Flanders or elsewhere . While Remembrance Day or what ever it is formally called in New Zealand has been overshadowed by Anzac day it is still worth marking particularly because of its world wide significance .
