Forming a youth movement is not a sign of fascism just because the Nazis did it. The Nazis did many things, like developing rocket and jet engines, we don't consider jet planes fascist...

A government can do things that benefit society as a whole without being socialist, or fascist...

I think what you really want your government to be is egocentric, so you can continue in the same way and feel comfortable with it.

Frankly I find certain 'right-wing' elements, with their divisive and jingoist rhetoric, more 'Hitler-esque' than the Obama campaign.

I do find broad, non-partisan indication of 'Gobbeles-esque' behaviour from politicians, partisans, and the media alike in this election season.

Imho, this thread is garbage. It's false-partisanship obscures any valid points it might make, and that's a shame, because there may be valid points to be made. It essentially, and I believe deliberately, invites non-productive divisiveness and polarized close-mindedness.

Heh... I actually looked up the term 'reich', it's a generic "used most to designate an empire, realm, or nation." But yes, my first answer doesn't quite make sense, does it, especially considering the history of Germanic people and the Roman Empire.

The second reich was the German state that was dissolved in WWI, apparently.

So the term "Reich" is not specific to Germany nor is it specific to "empires"? Otherwise the Ottoman empire might have been called a "Reich"?

Well, i actually met someone who claims that Obama is a socialist...and that Nazis (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei) were "socialists"...so apparently, since universal health care and "spreading" the wealth are socialist points of view, anyone that agrees with said points is a "nazi"...needless to say i almost punched him in the face for being such a moron.

So because Obama wants to create a youth group which would pretty much be an extender to such programs like the Peace Corps or the junior ROTC and that's considered "fascist", what about the young Republicans? Surely such indoctrination wouldn't you say? Or how about those Jesus camps? So when it's actually indoctrination of your "values" it's 100% ok, but when your political opponent hints at a volunteer program he's Hitler reborn. Unbefreakinglievable.

I have one question for who posted this, have you ever been to a college that has black fraternities or know anything about pledging ? I do believe that Obama is actually in one himself not drastically different than a traditionally white fraternity in its overall goals and purpose, anyhow, all this looks like are line brothers pledging to be in a junior fraternity.

For the uninformed this has been going on forever, on college campuses all across America, and also junior and auxillary fraternities at high schools, they build discipline, brotherhood and prepare youth for the challenges of college, completing studies and being successful, nothing more to see or twist into something built on the racist thread title, these sir in many instances do become the future leaders both in academic and other important professions after being mentored and assisted by their elder brothers.

There is an excellent paper on the similarities and differences between socialism and fascism. I suggest everyone read it, and see if you can see which, if any of the two, your country falls into. By the way, after reading the paper, you will see why your answer does not matter:

i think it would be safer to say that they are concerned about the intent of the obama movement being provoked. ya know in light of all the "conspiracies" we here, especially at this site.

Sounds like the hitler youth to me. I think its wrong that the Government 'mandates' anything like that. 100hrs of service? Whats next? Mandating a donation of 10 hrs of pay out of your 40work hr work week to some "greater cause"? Unbelievable! We barley have enough hours to work to pay cost of living and he wants us to donate??
