BREAKING: Head Of CA GOP Voter Registration Outfit Arrested For Registration Fraud

SACRAMENTO – The owner of a signature-gathering firm that works across California was arrested in Ontario today on suspicion of committing voter registration fraud, Secretary of State Debra Bowen announced.

Mark Anthony Jacoby, who owns the firm known as Young Political Majors (YPM), was arrested after allegedly registering himself to vote, once in 2006 and again in 2007, at an address where did not live. An investigation by the Secretary of State’s Election Fraud Investigation Unit revealed that Jacoby twice registered to vote at the address of a childhood home in Los Angeles although he no longer lived there.

Dozens of newly minted Republican voters say they were duped into joining the party by a GOP contractor with a trail of fraud complaints stretching across the country.

Voters contacted by The Times said they were tricked into switching parties while signing what they believed were petitions for tougher penalties against child molesters. Some said they were told that they had to become Republicans to sign the petition, contrary to California initiative law. Others had no idea their registration was being changed.

ACORN its been investigated as we speak but no arrest had been made. But keep in mind that these are State laws that vary depending on the state.

Like NGC2736 said, voter registration fraud should cause concerns no matter what side is involved, but when it comes to voter fraud thats when it becomes a big issue.

Whoever is in charge of policing should prosecute the violators to the fullest extent of the law to really deter this from happening.

But is not unexpected, we are talking about people that are trying to cling to something/anything to make an issue in order to not talk about the real issues that are affecting this country.

I commented in another post that registering voters should be illegal. That includes Motor Voter. It should be up to the individual to get themselves registered.

It should be very easy to vote and non voters should be encouraged to participate in the civic duty to vote on election day. Who would have thought there were problems with our system of voting? I will have to investigate and see if this has happened in the past.

A bunch of people saying they were duped into becoming republicans against their will is like saying that 3,000 Jewish residents in Florida accidently voted for Pat Buchanan when they intended to vote for Al Gore instead. It smells of a set up. I hope the media will do headlines on ACORN as much as they will this.

What you are suggesting is very alarming, what needs to be done to investigate this frauds and prosecute them like in this case.

It should be illegal. Voting is an individual choice. The individual needs to take the appropriate steps to ensure he is registered. I don't want people walking up to a lemonaid stand and get accosted to register to vote, the same thing applies to going to get a drivers license. The individual must make the choice to go down to the Registrar of Voters (an elected position) and ask to be registered to vote. No outside interference.

You cant be serious... We live in a country, where we invade another sovereign nation claiming to bring forth democracy, in which only 50-60% of us vote. That means half the nation either doesnt want too, or is too lazy to vote. Democracy should include as many voices as possible.


To make it illegal to get people to come out and vote, and i hate to use this term, un-American. So they didnt do it themselves. So it took a political activist to light the fire underneath them. Big deal. At my college, we have Obama and McCain people trying to register people. And at both stations, you can register as either dem, repub or ind. And they cant change it. I could care less if you register democrat, republican , or independent. just register, let your voice be heard.

It is up to the individual to go down to the Registrar's office and get themself registered. No Motor Voter, no walking up to a lemonaid stand and getting accosted to register.

You should re-read before you ridicule. I never claimed you said it should be illegal to vote. I said its preposterous to think it should be illegal to get people to register to vote.

I wonder what will become of the Dibold company that makes the voting machines? There will be those who will be sure that their votes were stolen. Their vehicles will be attacked. Our banks won't have anyone to fix the stuff.

There is no doubt that there is fraud on both sides. As I see it, the entire system is completely broken, from the registration process, to the primaries, to debates, campaign expenditures, to voting machines of all different types, to hanging chads (lol!) to you name it.

As much as I am opposed to it, I'm afraid that the only way the voting problem will be fixed, will be some sort of, yes, National Identity ID, with biometric random checks, and a NATIONAL database to go against, to prevent voting in multiple locations and states in the same election.

The primary system is a joke, with some states holding caucuses where a few thousand people decide who gets the state's delegates, while other states have voting machines, where some states allow people to cross party lines, while others do not, and where registered independents cannot vote, forcing people into one party or the other. Furthermore, should a person have to have $605,000,000 to be able to run for President successfully? It's a good thing this wasn't the case when good old Abe Lincoln ran, or who knows if Obama would even have the vote today.

I could go on, but I think you see my frustration. It's broken. At this point, I really don't care who wins, because the entire process is broken, and quite honestly, I wouldn't want to be the next president, with the world and the economy the way it is now, but someone sure should be looking at fixing this entire "Election Process". It is a complete disaster.

Amazing. Amazing how the GOP on here can ignore this. Obama works for charity, he's an evil socialist and the topic goes on for hundreds of posts. The GOP gets caught rigging the election... no posts.
