The following is an email I recieved with a link to a news article backing the information in the email up.

Just a question - what do you think? Think they are lying or telling the truth?

Secret Service Visit-Long Post

October 09, 2008 at 13:28:02:

I first read the following in my local newspapers, Nacogdoches Daily Sentinel and The Lufkin Daily News. I received this email this morning. Interesting. "This story was covered today, October 7, 2008, in the Lufkin Daily News, however, not in such detail. This action sends shivers up my spine.

Dear Friends: We have had some interesting things going on our street this week but this 'takes the cake'. The election is less than a month away - people need to be aware of this information of the tactics that have been used this week on my neighbor. This is not a political agenda I am on, this is a matter of principle. She is not a 'mental case nor political activist' just your everyday young Mom with small children and a husband out of the military. If this is the kind of 'change' Mr. Obama is referring to, we are definitely in for more than what has met the eye. What has happened here is not only appalling but frightening to think we may no longer have the freedom to speak against 'the powers that be' without the Secret Service showing up at your door. Keeping in mind, there is no taped conversation - simply a disgruntled volunteer who was not getting the response she was looking for. Jessica has contacted several politicians and news organizations - some who have told her 'this is out of my jurisdiction'. Please! Enough is enough - I for one will stand behind this young woman and notify every person I can possibly think of to make people aware of this travesty! I hope you will forward this on as well to as many people as you possibly can - especially to our elected officials and news organizations. Feel free to email me for verification. Connie Wells—Lufkin, TX
On Wednesday the 1st of October I received a call on my cell while in the car with my husband. It was a woman who identified herself as calling from the Obama Campaign. The phone # she called from was 903-798-6020 which lists as 'Obama Volunteers of Texarkana' (Texas).
She asked if I was an Obama supporter to which I replied:
'No, I don't support him, your guy is a socialist who voted four times in the State Senate to let little babies die in hospital closets; I think you should find something better to do with your time..' I hung up.
Thursday, October 2, I answered the front door to find the Secret Service. Immediately I thought of the call and was furious that apparently you are not allowed to call Obama a Socialist without the Secret Service coming to investigate. Instead, they asked me about the following comment, relayed by the Obama Volunteer of Texarkana who called me, unsolicited on my cell phone:
'I will never support Obama and he will wind up dead on a hospital floor.' My husband laughed and told them "No, she called him a socialist but she never said a word about him dying." I gave them my actual quote. The woman asked insolently "Oh? Well why would she make that up?"
I replied that I supposed she wasn't happy about what I said about her candidate and the Agent said "That's right, you were rude!" The last time I checked being rude wasn't a crime in America.
Luckily the big file they had gathered on me didn't indicate mental instability or a past life of stalking/crime, however they did want to know how I felt about Obama. That was my limit. I told the Agent in no uncertain terms that my thoughts were not pertinent to their investigation, that this was America and the last time I checked I was allowed to think whatever I wanted without being questioned by the Secret Service. In fact, even if I had said what she claimed,

that isn't a threat. I told them (again) and my husband verified that the statement reported by Obama's volunteer was a lie. I asked them if there was a tape of the call and they said no. I said, 'So on the word of a ticked off Obama supporter you are on my porch with no other evidence and you want to question me about my THOUGHTS!?'
They informed me that there was no evidence she was an Obama supporter…someone calling from his campaign…are you kidding?
I was not allowed to know the name of my accuser at which point they informed me that it wasn't like I was in a court of law, YET, as if this was a good thing. I recognized this as a veiled threat. I told them I would happily go to court since I did nothing wrong and at least then my accuser would have to face me rather than sending the thought police to my house.
They then said they were trying to do me a favor, that they came to me first before "embarrassing you by going to all your neighbors and family", another threat? I told them to be my guest and talk to whomever they wanted but they weren't going to investigate my thoughts on my porch.
They also informed me that it would be easier if the next time a supporter calls me I just say 'Yeah sure count me in, or just hang up' apparently so she won't get her undies in a bundle and give them more useless trips. Yeah right. I said 'Look, someone calls me unsolicited on my cell phone to ask me to support their candidate and I can't tell them why I don't?' I said I was sorry they made a wasted trip but if they had a problem with some made up lie they needed to go talk to her about it because it wasn't my fault they had to drive from Houston for nothing.
At one point I went inside and got a notepad to record their badge numbers and they refused to show me their badges. They had done the quick flip when they arrived. I asked for a card and the female Agent refused to give me one stating "You're not going to get a card." The male Agent gave me a card and told me I could contact Houston with any questions.
The fact that the volunteer lied, the fact that the Secret Service came to my house to question me about my thoughts and feelings and threaten to embarrass me to my neighbors and go to court if I didn't cooperate is not really the tragedy here. Because that girl on the phone doesn't have the pull to send the Secret Service to my home. Someone high in the ranks of a campaign working for a man who may be the next President of the United States of America felt comfortable bringing the force of the Federal Government to bear on a private citizen on nothing but the word of a partisan volunteer.
I want to file a counter complaint that false charges were made, that a false report was given to a peace officer. The Secret Service told me I cannot because they will protect the identity of the complainant. I also want the file they have on me destroyed and I want to know that my phone isn't tapped, etcetera. I am hearing a lot of "Out of my Jurisdiction".
Do I also hear jackboots? Jessica Hughes
Lufkin, Texas Note: I have contacted several news organizations, Rep Gohmert, Sen Hutchison, the Atty General, Local Police Will keep you updated, pass it along"

Just to caveat the above - I support neither candidate, nor am I attempting to push an agenda. However, if either of the candidates is using these types of actions in order to sway the vote of the populace, it is something that needs to be brought to light. I know others who will not allow a US president to wield powers similar to those of the gestapo in the 1930s. This is something that will not be..... allowed.

Just looking for peoples thoughts. Thanks.

Sure. Barry sits on his throne and orders the Secret Service, which is happy to investigate this nonsense.

You think this is the way it works? Think again. If the woman says the truth, this is not right. But who should be questioned to be in charge for this? I don't think that the SS operates on demand of a presidential candidate. They just do their job, based on laws and processes neither of the candidates had direct influence of.

How did Obama have anything to do with this? I doubt he hires all is volunteers and other staff directly. Sounds like an overzealous supporter got out of line. Unless you have evidence that the Obama camp has directed it volunteers to call the CIA when people say they wont vote for Obama then this thread's title is very misleading and irresponsible.

Yes, I am voting for Obama.

The biggest scare tactic Obama is using is scaring you to support him because if you don't you are a racist.

For those of you not familar with the term "Bradley Effect" get familar with it....you will be hearing alot about it on election day.

en.wikipedia.org...

Specifically, some white voters give inaccurate polling responses for fear that, by stating their true preference, they will open themselves to criticism of racial motivation. The reluctance to give accurate polling answers has sometimes extended to post-election exit polls as well. The race of the pollster conducting the interview may be a factor into voters' answers.

It sure looks like if we give the "wrong" answer to a pollster, not only are we considered racist, but we also may have to answer to the thought police as well.

Ever since George Wallace was shot, the Secret Service assigns at least one person to guard the presidential candidates. The Republican and Democratic nominees I believe receive an entire detail. Hillary I believe has her same detail from when she was First Lady, but they may have briefly added to it towards the end of her campaign.

As for this "incident?"

I don't believe you. I don't believe you when you say you have no agenda. You clearly have some sort of agenda, otherwise you wouldn't have made it a point to call Obama a "socialist" and falsely claim that he voted to "let little babies die in a hospital closet." I realize that this is your perspective. I also realize that your perspective is wrong.

Obama isn't using scare tactics. If anyone it's Mcsame who is using scare tactics.

Has Obama accused Mcsame as being a terrorist? No. McCain says Obama is the anti-christ, but, then, says he respects him.

So who do you trust?

It sounds like something got lost in translation here.

At least, it sounds to me like the volunteer heard the words "dead on a hospital floor" and interpreted it as either a direct or insinuated threat against a presidential candidate.

The SS was then contacted, and they investigated. Part of the Secret Service's job is to protect these candidates, and that means leaving no stones unturned. I fail to see how this all means the person in question is being unjustly harassed by jackbooted thugs that have been unleashed on them by scheming, top-ranking campaign officials.

This is a reply to Darth Chrisious

Whoa - hang on buddy - I got this in MY email - - - this didn't happen to me. I'm not the one who received the visit. If you want - I'll send you the email as proof.

And no - I don't have an agenda, nor do I support EITHER of the candidates.

Email as proof of what? This story is nonsense and I cannot help but believe that you are more intlligent than to see that. It not only makes little sense, it is backed up by what? Where is the proof? Is this happening all over and just one person spoke up or does Obama personally need this woman to support him and will get it by any means necessary? But you manage to get in some digs about socialism and abortion so...agenda spotted. Sorry. Unless you want to claim that you are truly bringing this information to us, wholeheartedly believing it is factual without doing any investigating or at least critical thought first. Take your pick.

I - - - ie. - -- ME - - I never said anyone was a "Socialist" The post came from an EMAIL - another person sent this email to me.... I DID NOT write the above stuff.

I'm not going to repeat this one more time.

Read the entire post before you start making accusations.

I support neither of the candidates and was presenting this to see what people thought....

If you don't like the content - tough #.... post about it, but don't take out your frustrations on me. This is not my original work.

To be honest with you, not really. My opinion is that it seems too much like something that a dictator would do - "sending SS to silence people" Also, the description of the way the supposed "Agent" handled themselves doesn't seem plausible consider the way I'm trained.

I wanted to get the opinions of others on the matter.

I don't have an opinion about Obama or McCain, though.

How the heck is Obama supposed to have the power to send anyone to do anything? He’s a senator running for POTUS, he’s not running nothing but his mouth right now.

IMO this is just another scare tactic by the R’s who are getting desperate at the thought of losing power.

So you think Bush is dictatorial? Look out! Obomber gonna getcha!!!

I will ask you again, what did Obama have to do with this incident? Did he call the SS? Has he ever spoken to either of the two parties involved in this? Has he directed SS agents to harass McCain supporters?

Obama has nothing to do with this unfortunate and ugly situation. If a McCain volunteer was caught smoking pot I would not assume the McCain supported pot smoking.

You may have received this as as an email but you choose to post and you choose the misleading and irresponsible title for the thread. You clearly have an agenda.

Well I hope you can understand how it may look a bit like you are throwing some ire in one specific direction. Especially when pushing a BS article like this and waiting until now to say that you do not believe it. From the OP, it just seems inherent that it jives with your oppinion since you are the one that read it, and thought that it was worth showing other people to. I hope you can understand that.

Drudge has picked up on it!

Here is another link........

www.lufkindailynews.com...

Hughes said she wants to file a countercomplaint against the volunteer.

"She has made a charge that will follow me the rest of my life," she said.

"I find that repugnant and violating — that some person got her undies in a bundle because she didn't like what I had to say."

Don't like Obama? You must be a racist, and you must want him dead, call the secret service.

Obama did tell people to get in people's faces. If that is not the go ahead for intimidation I don't know what is.

Side note...I think the title of this thread is not strong enough to elicit proper response. Something like "Oppose Obama, get ready for SS visit" or "Thought Police knocks on door of Obama opposer"....something other than Obama using scare tactics....that doesn't get the point across.

I checked this out on snopes and so far the legitmacy of the e-mail is 'undetermined'.

www.snopes.com...

I've been rude to people calling and discussing Obama (my husband is registered as an independant so I guess the Obama camp thinks this makes him fair game for receiving non-solicited phone calls) and I've told them to take our number off of their calling list but they don't. They are most definitly a pushy group of people. I've stopped answering calls from the numbers that they are known to call from.

I'll be glad when the election is over, if for no other reason, at least the pushy Obama people will stop calling!

So, let me get this straight. We have a far fetched story backed up by absolutely no facts or proof or witnesses or anything at all right? It does not even sound true, unless something like this is really easy to just sweep under the rug and hush up, except there is the mass email to belie that idea....So why does anyone believe this is real? Because it makes BO look bad?
