Wing cracks have grounded approximately 127 A-10 Warthogs. Roughly 240 of the 360 A-10s were built with thin skin wings. All the grounded aircraft come from that group. They are required to inspect and repair them before operations can resume. The priority is to repair the Centcom aircraft to allow them to resume operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The first A-10s flew in the 1970s. They're in the process of putting new wings on them, but it's taking time to get them all done.

I had the day off Monday so I called the local gunnery range to see if I could head over to videotape some A-10's and the kind gentleman that answered the phone said, "there is nothing on the schedule all week."

I assumed that the range was closed for maintenance, but maybe the fleet has been grounded all week and the Air Force was a little late releasing this article.
