^Look up there.

That little italics thingy says I am a member.

I don't know what it's called to search for it, so excuse me if this has been answered...

I've been around a while but I don't know how any why that title changes, other than for "writers."

Does it change with a certain number of points, as in some other message boards?

Do the mods reward members with certain titles based on something they do or a personality trait?

Or do members buy a title with some of their points?

^^If that is the case, I'll gladly pay to be the ATS Plague Doctor!

part of it's your contributions as a member.
People who distinguish themselves with well researched material, or they make particular contributions to ATS they are rewarded with spiffy name tags.
Generally it's rewarded by a consensus, from what I understand.

You can purchase a "custom title first line" in the ATS store and it will add text below your name.

The other member distinctions are as follows:

Writer - Accepted member of the writing forum

Fighter - ATS debate participant

Scholar - Involved with the research forum.
