Pray explain...

Are you saying that this is the reason I can see Georgia now????

According to this article,

The annswer [sic] is [Google] never launched coverage in those countries because we simply weren't satisfied with the map data we had available.

Furthermore,

Data for these countries were never on Google Maps in the first place.

So, according to Google, there was nothing to erase. No info on cities, roads, landmarks, etc.

However, I've had no problem accessing all that information on google earth. Download it; it's free.

Well why have I been able to access the maps for those countries since I first read the thread this morning?

I'm really confused now.

If you can see any features, whatsoever, within the borders of Georgia, Azerbaijan, or Armenia, then you're ahead of me. Can you just see the countries outlined, or are there features therein?

Are you using maps.google.com? Or Google Earth?

I'm using maps.google.com and I can see features.

Are you telling me that you can't????

I can post screens if you like.

Peace,
MGGG

I'm good with this; I use Google Earth--no problems in that app.

So it's there.

Now just zoom in.

Or am I missing something here?

Yes, Georgia is there. Zooming in reveals no roads, cities, etc. We're talking about the labels, which ARE visible in the pic I posted in the country to the south, for instance.

Google Maps was blank for thee last 2 days. The countries that were whited out were: Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia. Google Earth was OK, but there was no data available for roads, small cities, boundaries, etc., as Google Earth uses Maps to fill in the info. It seems to be working now, but it seems more than coincidental that just those three countries were affected.

Sorry, no screenshots, but I will personally vouch that this happened as well as other posters, I am sure.

Please refer to the original post.

I am still getting roads, towns etc.

I'm not saying that I don't believe the OP, I'm just confused as to why I can still see all this and still could when others couldn't.

It's strange timing sure, I'll agree with that.

Is what you're saying that the data we can see now is deliberately manipulated so that we can't see tha damage the Russians have done to a given area?

Not trying to be awkward.

Peace,

MGGG

It would make perfect sense. The 2008 Olympics will unveil WWIII. Trust no one. It's a global agenda.

Correction:

I just tried Google maps again. No data available still. Something is up.

That is strange that some can retrieve data and others not. Perhaps you have the data on your browser cache? Or perhaps it is certain Google servers that are blanked out?

That is strange. . . .

Google maps is still blacked out for me. And Google Earth shows no details also granted I'm sure there arent many roads and stuff out there but when I'm almost full zoom out all three of these countries have no yellow lines and neighboring ones do.

I clear the cache everytime I close firefox.

I'm gonna try and get some screens for you.

This is getting stranger by the minute.

Peace.

MGGG

I am not buying the Google official line.

I have been looking for other countries in the world that are blanked out as well. Guess what? Just Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia have "insufficient data." Western Africa seems well represented though.
