poor guards prolly have to chase mounds of curious seekers out of that place on a regular basis. "here we go again"...

or, it's the only thing that keeps them sane hanging out all day/night on watch. wonder how long their watch standing duties are?

maybe the ladies actually work for the base? as a deterrent.

ha ha!! those old ladies had waay more cajones than those stupid teenagers!


i guess when you are that age i would be like:

iv watched this a few times now and im not sure that the car that passes and goes through the signs is the same one the grannies were in? the grannies car was black and the car that goes trough seems to be white or some other light colour? what do you think?

The ladies' went to the bombing range. There are many unexploded bombs there. If their vehicle gets stuck, the Air Force will use it for target practice.
Nothing real special about this video, and the music was annoying.

The live fire range (range 61) has an actual fence, not warning signs or orange poles. You can't just drive on the range. Further, there are sensors on the roads. If you monitor the contractors as they staff threats during Red Flag, you will hear them notify range control as they pass through the gates. The range puts large barrels by the side of the road with a number on them to indicate the location of the gate. Some gates have signs on them with the name.

Why not join ATS instead of the anonymous post? Anyone with their feet on the ground is better than the 90% of the posters here that probably have never been to Nevada let alone near the range.

The video looks legit to me. I've traveled the roads and it all looks correct. [You thoughtfully didn't video tape that dumb ass graffiti on one side of the mailbox. I for one don't want to give that jerk any exposure.]

Lastly, once the ladies blew past your car, there was nothing that could have been done to stop the. I would have hiked Hawkeye Hill and video taped the rest of the action by the guard shack.

Wow, this is crazy. So not everyone is in agreement that the old ladies actually drove past the Area 51 warning signs?

Thank you for the heads up on the signs and area warnings.

I would think they just informed the ladies to turn around. I did not see use of deadly force on the signs where the ladies drove to.

There was a story (I can't remember where) of a man whose SUV was stuck in a bombing range. I don't think it was Nellis, but the man's SUV was used as a target.

I went back and watched the video and I agree, it looks like they are filming a different car going through. The old ladies car was Black, the one going through the gate looks white-ish, or silver. Definitely light colored.

If a civillian car goes through, maybe they need an escort to the gate? Not sure.

but it looks much different than the Grammamobile!

Anyone who has been down Groom Lake Road can tell you - that road dust is like powder, and your vehicle, especially the sides, get covered with it. I drove almost 2000 miles back home after visiting the area, and my wheels still had that dust on them!

I took screen shots of the video - looks like the same car, looking through the dust, and after a lot of road dust on the car.

I made an account so I could successfully reply. This is the filmer and editor of the video. I had typed up 2 very long responses answering alot of questions as ananomys but for some reason they werent approved. I love the picture showing the arrows pointing at the signs.
And yes, as you could see when the camera was back on our car as we were leaving, our gunmetal ford edge was covered with white powder from the road. The grannys car is no exception.
To answer the question about why we did nothing to stop them:
We were told by the lady at the Little A'Le'Inn to do about 15 when the speed limit near the signs said to do 25 because of the fine powdered road. If we were to slam on the brakes we would keep moving a few extra feet if doing the 25 advised and possibly gone over the boundary. Even if it is an accident, we would still be detained as trespassers. So as we slowed down to the 15 apparently we were going too slow for the grannys so they blew by us doing about 30 or 35. I didnt get a shot of them going by because my camera has like 5 second intervals between stopping recording and resuming recording. We advised them to stay way back and not to go past us. They didnt listen. We also assumed they knew the danger and seriousness of Area 51 simply because....they were there. Why would anyone want a picture of themselves by a normal military base? They traveled and stayed in Rachel for one reason. To visit the worlds most secretive military bases borders. And to add to that, they stated they were staying in Rachel and had already spoken with the Inn keepers. I am sure they advised them what to do and what not to do, just as they did us. There was nothing we could do.
The video is authentic in every way and If you want the raw footage completely unedited to prove it, I can arrange something.

For those that haven't done the drive, the road dips as you approach the signs. It would really be hard to stop going downhill. I don't have a problem with your actions. In fact, you warned them at what I guessed was the intersection of Mailbox Road and Groom Lake Road. The women did a stupid thing, plain and simple.

The comment about the graffiti was aimed at the person who did the video taping. Some jerk a few years ago painted one side white (or perhaps it was just after Steve repainted his mailbox) and they put some ugly block letter graffiti on the side.

Anything "manned" on the Nellis range is painted white, though this was not always the case. [Think about how "not real life" it is for a Roland to be white.]

Still, if you listen to weapons being employed, there is a protocol to insure the pilot has the correct target. I don't have much weapons school audio, but that is where you can hear them practice identifying the target to the nth degree before releasing weapons. Often the weapons employ a spotter "painting" the target with an infrared laser marker. I'm not trying to do public relations for the USAF, just relating how they train. I recall one weapons school sniper pod training session where the pilot said he saw the man and then said "Confirm that is not a real man."

All that said, I think it would be very rare to have a military aircraft shoot some schmuck's car. Now during Red Flag, the gun ships will "attack" targets of opportunity. But the attack is virtual. They run the guns, but there are no rounds used. You can hear the guns in action. It makes a sound like a growling belch. I was "shot" once at the Cedar Pipeline Ranch. I wish I had the video from the aircraft.

There was an "incident" a few years ago where a plane (Navy I think) shot the roof of a school due to pilot error.
