Media Hyping Viagra for Women for Drug Company Greed

About half of all people taking selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) like Zoloft experience sexual dysfunction such as loss of libido or anorgasmia, and as many as 90 percent go off their meds because of it, say researchers. That's a lot of lost patients.

Viagra, works by inhibiting "cGMP catabolism" in the smooth muscle tissue of the clitoris and penis, which enhances the "cGMP activity" that enables tissue to respond to sexual stimulation -- possibly even when serotonin-altered, as is the case with women on antidepressants.

So the promotion of Viagra for women has more to do with women staying on anti- depressants than just sexual dysfuntion.

I saw that Sanjay Gupta guy on CNN telling women that if their doctor thought they shouldn't take this drug, there is a link on the CNN site that they could go to in order to find another doctor. I was going to make a thread about it, but I couldn't find the link anywhere on CNN. Perhaps they took it down after people called and/or wrote in to complain. I was thinking to myself, "what a drug pusher".

Honestly? Bravo.
Much as I hated being drugged up, I was almost-forcibly on antidepressants for a few months, and it was hard to get into things with my boyfriend, I was just so apathetic towards everything.
Some people actually HAVE to be put on antidepressants, and while I don't agree with over-prescribing them, I do agree with making the time spent on them less crappy than it is for most people now.
