My take is that everything that we do not know is alien to us. Grays, reptilians, et al are intelligences that live within us and among us. You think the idea of a coherent alien intelligence coming from "out there" is scary? What if they are "in here" right now, and you have made yourself purposefully oblivious to it all along because it is too threatening to your sense of identity?

And yet, here we are, participants in a forum dedicated to the subject of alien intelligences. Like a moth to a flame, maybe? Or could it simply be that we are looking at ourselves through a looking glass? Why are we even bothering with the idea... unless something in us is telling us that it is time to look?

So we are playing a game with ourselves, I think. We want to know what is hidden, because the world is getting crazy. When we don't know where to look for relief, we turn inwards to find answers. But it is frightening, so we put the aliens "out there" at a distance from us. It seems safer that way.

But it isn't.

Because if you find the aliens "out there", then you are powerless against them. The metaphor could become a tool in the hands of cynical people who are interested neither in self-knowledge nor in deference to higher law.

Maybe the best way to protect yourself is to forge your own connection to the aliens before someone else decides that he should be the arbiter between you and the knowledge they have to share with us.

interesting question

I'm not unique in this thought - but I often wonder how I will recognize the truth - if there is a truth to recognize

you can't always pin the truth to a board like a moth and analyze it - it's always moving

I want to trust my intuition

but...self deception is even harder to pin down and get a good look at

I'm really interested in how an individual decides if the aliens are evil or good - or neither

at least those of us who've already pretty much decided they do exist

but do they? and why do I wonder? and why do I care?

but I have thought - I would prefer to know first hand over having it explained to me

how do I arrange that?

Love your avatar. It reminds me of a Roger Waters song called Perfect Sense, Part I:

The monkey sat on a pile of stones
And he stared at the broken bone in his hand
And the strains Viennese quartet
Rang out across the land
The monkey looked up at the stars
And he thought to himself
Memory is a stranger
History is for fools
And he cleaned his hands
In a pool of holy writing
Turned his back on the garden
And set out for the nearest town
Hold on hold on soldier
When you add it all up
The tears and marrowbone
There's an ounce of gold
And an ounce of pride in each ledger
And the Germans killed the Jews
And the Jews killed the Arabs
And Arabs killed the hostages
And that is the news
And is it any wonder
That the monkey's confused
He said Mama Mama
The President's a fool
Why do I have to keep reading
These technical manuals
And the joint chiefs of staff
And the brokers on Wall Street said
Don't make us laugh
You're smart kid
Time is linear
Memory's a stranger
History's for fools
Man is a tool in the hands
Of the great God Almighty
And they gave him command
Of a nuclear submarine
And sent him back in search of
The Garden of Eden

thank you for that - really

very meaningful to me

and I'm glad you like it -

unfortunately too small for you to see the look in his eyes -

and as for your thread - if you have any clues...

I wish I had a sure-fire technique. My experience seems to suggest that technique is secondary to desire.
