My computer's been acting up lately and I'm hoping somebody here could help me diagnose the problem and correct it. The main symptom is that the Internet isn't working, at least not all the way. I can navigate to most websites without any trouble, but if I try to use a search engine like Google or Yahoo!, I can't seem to get past the main page. If I type a search query, it just sits there "thinking" and never brings anything up. I'm also having trouble with my Yahoo! e-mail and fantasy baseball league, some message boards and shop.nhl.com. I can't remember other sites off the top of my head, but those are all pretty much inaccessible. I can't make any sense of it, because I haven't encountered this sort of thing before. My friend thinks it's a virus, but he doesn't have any idea how to deal with it.

I use Mozilla Firefox most of the time, since whenever Internet Explorer is open I get an endless parade of pop-ups (even with the pop-up blocker on). I'm not sure if these two problems could be related. For some reason, I can get to some of the sites I have trouble with if I use IE, but most of them still don't work.

This is driving me crazy, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you are getting endless popups that you never did get before on sites than that is not a virus.

A virus is something that spreads and a trojan is something that runs and prevents you from doing something. That is a very basic explanation so I don't want other people telling me I don't know what I'm talking about. I'm not writing this to make myself look smart. I'm writing this to help the poster out and not confuse him.

Ok, with that said lets get on with the problem. You don't have either listed above. You simply have spyware on your computer and it is bogging your computer down massively. Everything is executing correctly but just so slow that pages aren't loading up. the pop-ups is designed to make the person that installed the spyware money. The problem with people doing this is that most of them have no idea what they are doing so they mess your system up to the point that it runs slow. Or that is the whole point to get you to buy memory or what ever product they are selling. Remeber that I'm speaking in generalities becaue noone can really say what it is or why because we can't see your computer.

I know one website that installs spyware then pops up with an ad that say, "Your computer is infected and you should by this software." When you buy the software it doesn't even fix the problem.

Your not going to like the solution that I'm going to give you because it cost money, but I guarentee it will fix your system.

Get this software.

I've tried all of them and this is the best. there is so much crap out their you have to be carefull, but you lucked out and are reading a post from some one that has twenty years experience.

1. Latest version of Trojan Remover and update it before scannning. You will find some stuff and it will fix it. I know I said you don't have the above but some trojans do small things that you don't even notice.

2. SpyCleaner Gold 9.5 is the best. It finds what every other program misses. Also update that before scanning.

3. Get a registry cleaner and optimizer they are all the same and you could probably find a freeware version somewhere. I use Norton Utilities that is the best.

4. Defrag your harddrive to get everything back in order and your ready to go.

5. you got spyware because you don't have or are not using a good enough firewall. the windows based firewall is pure garbage. Everyone knows how to get past that the first week it is realeased. Very week. I recommend Bit Defender for Vista and BlackIce for XP. Black Ice is the best.

6. You have protected your computer, but many know how to get past firewalls no matter what you use so you want to encrypt and lock your windows directory and environment. Deep Freeze will prevent you and anyone else from writting to harddrive. This will keep your system safe. you just have to use an external thumb or hard drive for your data files and browser while on line. When you are offline you can unlock DeepFreeze and install software backup data etc. Then lock it up with your password and go back online conmpletely safe from any viruses, trojans, spyware. it is 128 bit encrypted so it would take people to long to crack you stuff. They will just move on to the next person that has an easyier setup.

I hope that helps and it is always running the right software to fix your computer problem and I just gave you the best titles.

That is th

You mentioned in your other thread about Porn that you love porn and that you probably download it all the time from the internet, so there is your answer to where you got the virus from. Internet porn is a sure way for any one handed jock to get more than he bargained for. It could be worse though, if you were having real sex you might have got an actual virus and that might be more problematic for you.

Try better virus software. You do use virus software don't you?

UFO, you took the words right out of my mouth.

Despise, you need to take some of your porn budget and get yourself the latest Norton or another good form of anti-virus software.

Thanks for the help. I figured the pop-ups had something to do with the problem.

And to the goofballs who want to poke fun, sorry but the computer's not used for porn. It's not even in a private room.

You might also find this resource handy:
www.malwarehelp.org...

It is a list of online scanners for various plagues. If there are still problems after you try to clean things, you might want to consider getting HiJackThis and posting logs here or other places to get some help.

Saying that it mostly effects Internet Explorer makes me believe that you may have more of a spyware problem.

Also, installing NoScript and ABP for firefox is a good idea if you have not done so already.

Your welcome!

There are many goofballs in this worlds society desperate to belittle others hoping it will make them look good. The only problem is that is makes you look better and them look worse and unintelligent.

The only people that don't see through this are other insecure people with the same socialistic problems. Basically they have no social skills and can't cope with it.
