Not only have they recruited postmen and cable installers to snitch on their customers, now theyre recruiting snitches at the teen age level by encouraging people to text in tips.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Police in the 1970s urged citizens to "drop a dime" in a pay phone to report crimes anonymously. Now in an increasing number of cities, tipsters are being invited to use their thumbs - to identify criminals using text messages.

Police hope the idea helps recruit teens and 20-somethings who wouldn't normally dial a Crime Stoppers hot line to share information with auth

It's not "snitching" if you're informing law enforcement of a crime being committed is it?

Granted I don't think people should be turning in their neighbors because they see them smoking a joint on their own property, or having sex outside the "missionary position", (which is actually against the law in many states still in the US I believe!).

On paper it's a great tool to help police the masses, BUT- People have, and will continue to bear false wittness to execute some personal agenda.

If all this "snitching", good or bad, helps save one little girl from being abducted then it's all worth it IMHO. You've gotta take the fleas with the dog. . .
