Betancourt and 3 Americans rescued in Colombia

Former Colombian presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt has been rescued, the country's defense minister, Juan Manuel Santos, said Wednesday.

Betancourt, who is reportedly in severely deteriorating health, was kidnapped by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, known as FARC, in 2002.

This is great news!

I have followed this story for years and I am truly thrilled to see her rescued. I have always wondered who was really behind her kidnapping as she was big on anti-corruption back then.

I hope her health will allow her to back into Colombian politics, but first of all I'm just happy for her and her family.
