CEO pay climbs higher despite slow economy

www.msnbc.msn.com

NEW YORK - As the American economy slowed to a crawl and stockholders watched their money evaporate, CEO pay still chugged to yet more dizzying heights last year, an Associated Press analysis shows.

The AP review of compensation for the heads of companies in the Standard & Poor’s 500 index finds the median pay package added up to nearly $8.4 million. That’s a comfortable gain of about $280,000 from 2006.

Great example of a catch 22.

Let's say that times are a little tough and suddenly CEO's get pay cuts. Where does that money go? Back into the company as profit. right? Then what does the average citizen do then? They complain about the profits of the company.

It's a no-win situation for the company.

Should government be in the business of telling companies what to pay their employees?

What would any of you do if the government came to your work and told your boss that you were overpaid? Worse yet what if your pay was cut because of it?
