How to make a Killer Thread on ATS

NEW ONE.... in its infancy.

The OP made such a ridiculous statement that I found it my moral duty to actually suffer a reply.

HOLY GRAIL(crap)

This one is the best I have seen. The OP managed to say next to nothing and created a huge buzz. One post, and BAM tons of hits. He even got flags before anything was actually discussed.

I nominate this for best of 08!(so far)

Not bad, but if you really want to make that thread go places, here are some tips.

First, change the thread title from UFO sightings from around the world to 100% Absolute PROOF that UFOs took my dog!!! The key is to have a thread title so unrelated to the actual content of the post that it confuses anyone trying to read it.

Then, adjust as follows

Omit. You don't want your reader to have a choice. It's either your version of the truth, or nothing at all

Some of these made me laugh. But,there were a few that made me go Hmmm...
I guess it's up to you to decide....

That's how to make a long lasting thread. Although yours is thought provoking and provides some insight, unless it offends the reader, you've got nothin'.

I would a dun all that but I'm saving my 900 points for the big jar of alien shaped jelly beans at the ATS store.

I still have about 300 insipidly rancid off topic post to do...

Hopefully soon I can get into chat so I can spend 36 hr stretches talking to myself and having conversations with people that aren't there.

Well, you could write a thoughtful, detailed explanation as to why the topic at hand is riddled with logical fallacy and baseless information......

But then you run the risk of using too many big words and losing some of the readers. They'll skip over it and act like what you just posted isn't there and continue the useless tripe that these 'killer threads' are full of.

But then again, you are the mod.... you could always do the 'hard kill' of a thread. But that's not nearly as fun

Spam communist propaganda until a mod closes it. Or (since you are a mod) close it yourself.

Another way to kill it is to respond to everything "Your mother".

Thats sound advice.

I would add that if you have the word 'God' in either the title or the opening post, then that will get the attention of certain groups of easily inflamed individuals.

The word 'God' is worth 3, maybe 4 pages easy.

Another one:

This one has interesting possibilitys. Do You think Extraterrestrials will destroy John McCain?

Welcome back. This thread reminds me of the Classic Quotes Burial Grounds thread. Good read. I see some of those OP's no longer have accounts at ATS.
