Mystery sounds of the Pacific

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has recorded several sound of unknown origin off the coast of South America with his array of hydrophones in the Pacific Ocean.

This array was first used by the U.S. NAVY to detect Soviets submarines.
It is now used as a scientific tool to moniter seismicity under the Pacific Ocean

The first one is nicknamed "Slow Down"
It was recorded on May 19, 1997 near 15 S; 115 W. and was detected with a range of nearly 2000km.

The next one is nicknamed ''Bloop''
It was recorded in the sumemr of 1997 near 50 S; 100 W and was detected with a range of 5000km (!)

The next one is nicknamed ''Julia''
It was recorded on March 1, 1999 near 15 S; 98 W

The next one is nicknamed ''Whistle''
It was recorded on July 7, 1997 at 7h30 local time.

The next one is nicknamed ''Train''
It was recorded on March 5, 1997

The last one I could find is nicknamed ''Upsweep''
It was recorded in August 1991. It was recorded throughout the Pacific and appear to happen more often in fall and spring. The source is said to be near

Very interesting, I never heard about anything other than "Bloop"! We have quite a good thread on this subject somewhere..

Yea all those sounds(except the bloop)were explained as natrual events.Also there is already a thread on this somewhere.

julia was very creepy to me, and i didnt hear anything special in the bloop everyone is talking about

Listen to the "real time" of the bloop..not the sped up version.


Talk about creepy,I dont wana meet whatever made that sound.
