"The Global Poverty Act:

* Declares it official U.S. policy to promote the reduction of global poverty, the elimination of extreme global poverty, and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goal of cutting extreme global poverty in half by 2015.
* Requires the President to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to carry out that policy.
* Includes guidelines for what the strategy should include - from aid, trade, and debt relief, to working with the international community, businesses and NGOs, to ensuring environmental sustainability.
* Requires that the President's strategy include specific and measurable goals, efforts to be undertaken, benchmarks, and timetables.
* Requires the President to report back to Congress on progress made in the implementation of the global poverty strategy."

According to the above source, these are the contents of the Global Poverty Act, sponsored by Barack Obama. The reason this is a conspiracy is that 1) it's been very hard to find any news on this at all from either AP or Reuters or whatever mainstream news source you prefer. All the news about it is on blogs supporting the bill. But the website belonging to Glenn Beck includes the real meat of Senate bill 2433. And 2) what's being left out of this seemingly benign news article is what is included in Beck's coverage:

The Act will commit the US to $845 Billion in addition to what is already being spent on foreign aid (that's .7% of the GDP)

The goals of the Act will be declared by the United Nations, not the United States.

The declaration commits the US to ban small arms and weapons, ratify a series of treaties including the International Criminal Court treaty, the Kyoto protocol, and the Convention on Biological Diversity.

Let me just say that this is not a "I hate Glenn Beck" thread. Nor is it an "Obama for president" thread. This thread is about an act of legislation that was pushed through the house because no one read it and is now being pushed through the Senate and no one is talking about it. This is the type of thing that we're all afraid of. Is this the direction you want the US to go in? If it is, then call it what it truly is - not Liberalism, but SOCIALSIM, and an attempt to fast track a global government.

Glenn Beck

You can completely say goodbye to the Bill of Rights if this stuff passes. No more right to bear arms.

And the UN would have total power over us until Jesus comes back.

WOW I almost forgot about this abomination!

It's absolutely incredible barely anyone is talking about this!

If senate passes this thing, our entire nations sovereignty will be compromised! (as if it's not already) but REALLY - your talking about weapon seizures that will most probably be enforced by foreign U.N. troops! Much less finishing off what's left of our economy////

Interesting. I don't like the way things are going in the world. What I have a problem with is that Jesus is supposed to come back and he is surely Socialist or Communist. A world ruled by "Saints". Everyone will have to follow his dictatorship. Those that oppose him will be killed. The faithful will be rewarded. I don't know, on one hand the NWO or on the other Jesus. Seems like no matter the choice it all comes down to control of the individual for the good of all.

I don't think a Jesus dictatorship is bad at all. Fist off, him being 1 with God, all the right choices and freedoms will be in place. Besides that, I'm sure he'll be lifting physical, mental, and spritual barriers/restrictions that we've been living with all our lives, i.e. the blinders come off.

I think the only ones in trouble in this kind of situation are the pro NWO'rs.

I was quite surprised to see that no one else had made a thread about this. It really is an abomination. But clearly it doesn't matter what the American people want. The question is whether it ever did after the deaths of the founding fathers.

Folks it is time for the pitch forks and torches!!!! The moment we as a country are threatened this way it is time for a complete upheaval of our current so called leaders and full implementation of the second ammendment which gives us the power to take our country back!!! Our survival is at stake!!!

Scary stuff - first I've even heard about it, of course considering the implications of the USA being bound by such obligations no wonder it is being slipped under the radar.

Found a nice outline of the Millenium Declarations (this is what the USA would agree to):

ANPED

This has all the hallmarks of an act that would neuter our Bill-Of-Rights.

So the Global Poverty Act cites the United Nations Millennium Declaration, which states in section II that one of it's goals is:

To take concerted action to end illicit traffic in small arms and light weapons, especially by making arms transfers more transparent and supporting regional disarmament measures, taking account of all the recommendations of the forthcoming United Nations Conference on Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons.

And here is the definition of Illicit:

Illicit:

il·lic·it
adj.
1. Not sanctioned by custom or law; unlawful.

So pretty much they want to do away with the illegal sale of small arms and light weapons.

This is in no way a repeal of the 2nd amendment which reads:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

I'm not quite sure how anyone would fathom that stopping illegal gun trafficking would constitute a repeal of the 2nd amendment, unless of course they were retarded.

Another thing to add is that we know about Obama's plans for a "civilian national security force", perhaps Obama is planning a return to the traditional 2nd amendment? Any thoughts?

Wow. How horrible to think the US would support all these terrible measures.

Global poverty? To hell with the rest of the world if they ain't got oil we don't care.

In case you didn't notice the US isn't the whole world. Whilst you turn on the tap and get nice fresh drinking water a MAJORITY of the world doesn't.

Whilst you go down to Walmart and buy your dinner whenever you want the MAJORITY of the world goes to bed hungry.

Whilst you can buy a weapon freely the MAJORiTY of the world can't ( see crime statistics on gun crime) .

But then again I'm just a commie loving liberal.

If this is socialism, count me in.

Heh, I didn't realize this thread got resurrected. Thanks guys.

I stand by my original conclusion about the Global Poverty Act which I posted back in February. This is part of a Liberal NeoSocialist push toward a society in which our talents and efforts are stolen, er, redistributed.

And in case you missed the important part, this gem of a plan costs

$845 billion.

When Barack Obama said in the first presidential debate that he had no plans to curtail spending on his sweeping social measures even after the $700 BILLION bailout package and another possible stimulus package, THIS WAS WHAT HE WAS TALKING ABOUT.

$845 billion more that we don't have.

To Merigold: This bill is not about improving impoverished peoples' lives; it is about freedom. It is about the freedom of choice to contribute to a charity with time or money because you will have the means to do so. If people had more disposable income they would have more money that could go to charity or they could afford to take more time off to contribute their time. I know I would.

To gopher: Firstly, a war on illegal weapons is exactly like all the "War(s) on..." It was lost before it started. When you can buy an AK for the price of a happy meal in a third world country, no amount of US money or policing is going to stop it. Secondly, I see it as a stepping stone to scrapping the 2nd ammendment. After all, in certain cities in America it's already near impossible to possess a weapon even though that right is guaranteed.

Besides, I thought the rest of the world wanted America to keep its nose out of everyone else's business. This sort of initiative sure is the exact opposite.

You obviously don't know Jesus because if you did, you would know that He is ultimate freedom and cares for us unconditionally. If you were to have enough guts to ask Him to forgive you of your sins and come into your heart, you would discover that He would change your life and give you a Joy and Peace like you have never known. There can be no greater fulfilment than to be a true and dedicated follower of Jesus Christ.

This bill never made it into law, so no worries as of now. But it will probably be reintroduced in the 111th or 112th sessions of congress.
