If, say, I designed a logo and took pictures and posted them on the internet, is a television station allowed to use those pictures and that logo in a primetime show?

Just wondering.

I'm no expert on this stuff, but this link will help you out.

Trademarks

The owner of a registered trademark may commence legal proceedings for trademark infringement to prevent unauthorized use of that trademark. However, registration is not required. The owner of a common law trademark may also file suit, but an unregistered mark may be protectable only within the geographical area within which it has been used or in geographical areas into which it may be reasonably expected to expand.

It was a news report in Australia.
It wasn't a trademark, just a design I whipped up (if 'whipped' means 40+ hours
) and posted on a forum.
But the pictures got about 3-4 minutes of airtime all up.

I don't think it's illegal. It just would have been nice if they had asked, that's all.
