(M&C) - Police have arrested the man who walked into a London police station on the weekend, five years after he was believed to have drowned in a canoeing accident.

John Darwin, 57, was presumed dead after the wreckage of his canoe was found washed up on a beach in Seaton Carew, near Hartlepool, Teesside, in March 2002. He stunned family by walking into the police station announcing "I think I am a missing man".

Mr Darwin claims to have no knowledge of where he had spent the previous five years.

A Hampshire police statement said: "A 57-year-old man has been arrested this evening by Hampshire police at the request of Cleveland police in relation to their ongoing investigation surrounding the disappearance of John Darwin, from Hartlepool, in March 2002."

No reasons were given for the arrest.

Adding to the mystery was the fact that Mr Darwin's wife Anne, had sold the couple's two properties and moved to Panama, only weeks before Mr Darwin's reappearance.

Guess this solves it then guys.
Turns out lieing humans are more common than alien abductions.
What a shame.
