At first I thought this was a joke, but the humor looked a bit too subtle for TheOnion, so I was just about to post a thread about it in the media forum. I've decided to run with it though, considering a google search unearths dozens of copies of this article all dated no more than 2 days ago.

Anyway, I wouldn't exactly call this good news, unless you think 718 people getting killed is good, regardless of what the figure was before.

edit: Ah ha! Exactly what I was looking for: Not-So-Horrible Thing Happens In Iraq. It's interesting when you place the Onion article side by side with the real one, which was released about a month later.

I agree numbers are dropping,but not for the 'positive reasons' the pentagon and US officials say.

On one hand you have alsadr calling a 5 month cease fire, on the other..

perhaps there's lower death rates because



I look at the above, more so that Iran has taken baghdad, instead of Shiite Iraqi's have taken baghdad.

theyve dividied and conquered for the last 4 years, and there's less houses/land to take.

The shiites have definately taken control... through muder and mayhem.
So there's not as much need for death and destruction?

Plus,

Americans could be taking less patrols ( we've all heard the story about the fake patrols )

OR maybe there taking smaller, less open patrols?
