China bans bra, underwear, sex toy ads

Social pollution? I don't understand why all these restrictions must be enforced. Are sexual crimes a problem in China? THis is the only reasonable excuse I can see for this happening. The article also talks about how shows like American Idol are banned in China as well, because it allows people to vote via text messages for their favorites.

well, if the chinese people are not rebelling and protesting against it, then wheres the problem. if their views is not the same as the US, who would probably protest to have all sort of smut on TV -albeit a push up bra is not smut- different cultures have different moral values. maybe the chinese populace are not as obsessed with sex drugs and entertainment as we.i hope not to see posts defending why they should allow remove this ban...

Moral Panic. That's a good turn of phrase MM. And hits the nail on the head with the Chinese (Well a lot of the ones I know anyway!)

The Chinese are about as sexually devient as the rest of the world! Although in fairness their not a patch on the Japanese!!

Behind closed doors and all that. I bet they all like putting on big rasta wigs and gettin down wiv it!! Yay man - Pass the @#$$#%$ to the left hand side.

It's actually because lately the bra ads are getting more and more borderline soft porn. This is probably just temporary, like most bans of these sort. Give it a year or two and regulations will be lax again.

It won't be long before the Malaysian government follows suit. Our bra ads are getting more... lewd...

Anyway there are a couple of shops in the malls (in Malaysia) selling sex-toys as well. I'm surprised, really surprised, that the government hasn't clamped down on those yet. Our society, (and most of Asia) is very conservative. It's the norm here to be modest.

Recently during the Hungry Ghost Festival the police raided some places where there were performances because the singers were prancing around in almost see through clothing. Sure, most men like it, but the society in general found it offensive.

It's a different culture in the East. You don't have to knock it. Not too long ago the west was just as prudish as we are.

They don't want their public media to decay into American soft core porn. Good idea.

A few weeks ago, SARFT ordered 11 radio shows off the air in southern and central China for talking too explicitly about sex or for broadcasting material of an "extreme pornographic nature."

Regulators have also banned television shows about cosmetic surgery and sex changes, and a talent show that they deemed coarse.
