Didn't the Internet start as a Government Asset?

The internet was originally a military technology way back when, anyone wonder if it is still maybe a CIA program?

Yup. Started as a way of maintaining communications in the event of a massive strike. Designed as a way of passing info through many paths, assuring that the chain of command had a way of communication.
Is it an asset? Probably in some sense, but the explosion in popularity, and the advent of hackers and privacy experts, is more than likely beyond their capability to control in more than a rudimentary fashion.
