US judge fines Iran for 1983 attack

A US federal judge has ordered Iran to pay $2.65bn to families of 241 soldiers killed in the 1983 bombing of a military barracks in Beirut.

But the families will find it hard to collect the money, which they hope to secure through the seizure of Iranian assets around the world.

Interesting timing, this atrocity occured 24 years ago and only now do we have judgement? Iran has already dismissed this claim but does the U.S really have the ability or the authority to seize Iran's assets from around the globe? How would that work? If anyone could shed more light onto this I'd be grateful.
