US judge fines Iran $2.65 billion for killing 241 Marines in 1983

www.ynetnews.com

Iran must pay $2.65 billion to the families of the 241 US Service members killed in the 1983 bombing of the US marine barracks in Beirut, a federal judge declared Friday in a ruling that left survivors and families shedding tears of joy.

Iran has been blamed for supporting the militant group Hizbullah, which carried out the suicide bombing in Beirut. It was the worst terrorist act against US Targets until the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

This ruling will allow family members and a handful of survivors to try to collect Iranian assets from various sources around the world. Although finding the assets will be very difficult for them.

How exactly will this be enforced? You cant realy just march up to the Iranian government and demand a cheque. And like you said, finding iranian assets around the world is no easy task.

Big pay day,

so basicaly the US has no ties with Iran and expects them to pay 2.65 billion to the familes of US service men who died.

Iran should have a press confrence telling them where to stick it.

or does the US still have Iranian frozen assets?

More like the US will take the money from Iranian assets that have been frozen since 1979. I actually doubt any families will see any money but some lawyers will.

Could US lay claim to Iranian oil, by forcing them to provide a more abundant amount to US, as payment?

If Iran refuses payment, I can see this being another excuse for US to go into Iran in the up comming year.

And what perfect timing for such a momentous decision. Get a story out pointing the finger of guilt in the death of our brave boys at Iran, at a time when the the man at the top (Cheney) is pushing for another war.
Yeah!, lets blame Iran directly, although there's probably little or no actual evidence beyond innuendo and speculation that they had anything to do with it

so how much is America to pay the Vietnamese families in a year-long war? On nett there were more casualties at the side of Vietnam than America, so how much?

Why stop with Vietnam?

I`m sure if the victims of all CIA-backed violence over the past 50 years stepped up with a lawsuit, the USA would be bankrupt in a fortnight...

What an injection of sentiment into the western media.
We've all just been given a refresher on why we hate these people....

the propaganda gets less subtle by the minute. i kind of expect to turn on the teevee someday soon, and see a talking head say, "the government has decided to invade australia based on a fabricated scenario which will give america the high moral ground.
in other news, america needs more marsupials in order to establish global marsupial leadership.
stay tuned for more at eleven. two minutes of hate at 11:30. DON'T TOUCH THAT DIAL."

This is exactly what people have to understand about what has become the reality of Orwell's preedictions. It is not the Telescreens and death of emotions.

The same area of conflict he spoke of is the current area of conflict today, and has been since the end of WWI. People are told to hate others for whatever reason, and they just do. Accept it as truth and move on.

"Take drugs, neglect your children, commit crime or go to church, just make sure you accept what we tell you as the truth. It is all we demand, and all that we need."

I am pretty sure this was jus the justification they needed to sieze whatever assets have been frozen, and assimilate them.
