This is a head-shaker. Imus gets canned for calling some college women basketball players "nappy-headed hos" and yet Rush Limbaugh plays "Barack The Magic Negro" on his show and he is still on the air?

How is that even possible?
source

In this article, it is alleged that Rush Limbaugh played a song entitled "Barack the Magic Negro" with no backlash??

Visit the article and watch the video.

Sorry, the post is so short, but I'm at a loss for words.

The Magic Negro thing came out a long time ago from the L.A. Times:

www.abovepolitics.com...

First of all, it's not really inheritantly bad, and of course it's nothing like the Imus comment, since Obama, as a Presidential candidate, is a public figure who has opened himself up to public scrutiny, while those college basketball girls clearly were not (at least until Imus's statement).

When I first heard the "Magic Negro" thing, I immediately thought of the Puff the Magic Dragon song myself....I should have copyrighted it.

DJ EXACTLY!!!

So typical that there is a problem with this and no one has any problem with the President being called a War Criminal, Traitor, Monkey, ETC

The hypocrisy is going to be extensive this election I can already see..

And yet...

He is and remains the single most successful talk radio host in history..

Last count was 22 million listeners..

Perhaps, now just maybe, 22 million are correct and 1 that's One Grover could be wrong?

Just going with the odds here mind you, but I'll bet the 22 million every time over the 1...

The actual stats indicate that Rush is aired on 600+ radio stations across the nation.
Next is Hannity at just under 500

It drops off dramatically after that..

I'm not fond of American Idol, but I am OPEN enough to understand that with it's popularity, it must by definition be a good program..

Whaaa,

I could almost agree except for the sheer substantiation of the numbers..

22 million people can't all be wrong..

It's also never an absolute that just because you don't agree with something, does NOT in fact make it wrong, it quite simply means you disagree...

No one person, or two, creates an absolute positive. Because you vehemently disagree with Rush, does in no way make him wrong.
My agreeing also does not make him right...

But 22 mil, gets pretty close..

Rush predicted liberal idiots would blame him for calling Barack "The magic Negro."

He can read you people like a book!

It was the ultra-liberal LA Times that came up with the phrase!

Source

I think some of you owe Rush an apology!

Infoholic... after reading this post, and are halfway informed, will you call for the firing of the author of this opinion piece, David Ehrenstein, of the LA Times?

To those who think Rush Limbaugh would ever have a chance of being fired.......

Rush Limbaugh is self-employed. What is he going to do, fire himself?

He was asked this question Friday by a caller. Rush replied, "If I did fire myself, I would rehire myself 5 minutes later at a higher salary!"

I can't stomach Rush, but in this case he didn't do anything wrong.
There is nothing to look at here ... except perhaps some folks trying
to get Rush (conservative) in trouble because IMUS (liberal) got fired.

I also think this quote is relavant to Mr. Limbaugh and his radio show and most of his crass comments.

I also listen to Rush, so I am one of his 22mil. listeners and I sometimes agree with him but.............

RR....

I'm not a follower of Rush, and I could care less of some of the things he says/does on "his" show. But that's not my point.

I would suggest rereading my opening post. I pointed out that he "played the song". I pointed out the fact that Rush capitalized on the song being sung. How could he possibly be in the right for taking a malicious statement and "rubbing it in"?

The person that began the "magic negro" should be held accountable, IMO. Whatever that means, so be it... it's not my call. I wouldn't have asked for Imus's firing, as did Sharpton, just to make a political point. Kudos to Sharpton.

Ok, Here are the lyrics! Sung to the music of Puff the Magic Dragon, and sung by an Al Sharpton impersonator!

Barack the Magic Negro
lives in DC
The LA Times they call him that
cause he's not authentic like me.

The guy from the LA paper
said he makes guilty whites feel good
They'll vote for him and not for me
cause he's not from the hood

See, real black men like Snoop Dog
or me or Farakhan
have walked the walk and talked the talk
not come in late and won

Oh, Barack the Magic Negro
lives in DC
The LA Times they call him that
cause he's black but not authentically

Some say Barack's articulate
and bright and cool and clean
The media sure loves this guy
a white interlopers dream

but when you vote for president
watch out and don't be fooled
don't vote the magic negro in
'cause...cause I won't have nothing
after all of these years of sacrifice!

But seriously, a liberal can't call Barack a "Magic Negro" and not have someone make a parody song out of it!

I am a liberal RR and I am far from being an idiot thank you very much.

When are people like you going to realize that it is one thing for a group (blacks, gays, women, Chinese, what not) to address each other in stereotypical and derogatory slang as a form a patter or trash talking and it is another thing entirely for someone outside to do the same? It is not a black thing. Two gay men will refer to each other as faggot or queer, or two women as bitch just as two blacks will refer to each other using the N word BUT just you try and refer to those same two women for example as bitches and they will tear your eyes out. It is a way of taking the sting, the hate out out of the words until someone like you comes along and thinks hey they call each other N all the time so why can't I? It is simply not the same and never will be but I doubt you have the nuanced mind to understand that.

It is kind of like that old Lenny Bruce skit where he gets up and shouts the N word a couple dozen times then comments how if you repeat a word often enough it ceases to have any meaning and simply becomes a sound...

...In many ways that is what people do... they desensitize the word but it is for them to do, not you or anyone else.

It is one of the things I find most obnoxious about the hard right is your blindness and insensitivity to matters of race.

I remember when Rush first talked about this. My local talk station plays the clip all the time where he stops himself and says "I better stop using this phrase. If I use it enough it becomes mine and people will forget all about the L.A. Times story and all we'll here is 'Rush called Obama a magic negro.'"

Maybe this guy from the Times had a point in claiming all white pople are racist and will vote for the whitest black guy to both appease liberal guilt and keep whitey in power. Personally, I know alot of whites around here who feel this very way. Consequently one of them converted to Judaism out of liberal guilt. She's blond haired blue eyed and of German decent. She admitted to doing it out of guilt.

Its ridiculous and offensive but way too many people are motivated by it and thinnk its completely right and justified.

As far as there being anything wrong with the paradody song, absolutely not!

Beside the fact that its hysterical yet depressing parody is a right of free speech. You wouldnt want Weird Al to get shut down would you?

Again I will say this...I am a liberal but I am no idiot. Guilt has nothing to do with my political viewpoints and I simply do not understand anybody who lets it affect their behavior. I will or will not vote for someone based on their record and whether or not I think they can govern effectively not as some way to calm some nagging angst. The same is true in matters of religion. To convert to Judaism out of some feeling of guilt is absurd. I joined my religion because I believe its fundamental principles. Anything else is shallow and simplistic.... and btw, not limited to liberals.

LOL
If you're really in VA though youre obviously not my aquaintance who converted out of guilt and admits to it.

Of course its not a behavior expressly limited to liberals. My personal experience has shown liberals seem to partake in such actions a bit more frequently though. Like constantly, while the more conservative aquaintances are typically making fun of them for doing anything under such motivation.

But thats just my personal experience.

I wouldnt be so bold to claim 100% of anyone does anything across the world.

Its a funny coincidene though that you converted too.

I joined the Baha'i Faith when I was 16... I am 51 now. Guilt had nothing to do with it. I believe the principles of the faith and that is what led me to join. AND I do live in Va. just 35 mile north of Va. Tech.

The point that some have yet to grasp here is.
1. Imus shouldn't have been fired....
2. Rush as much as I think he is a drug addict with blow job skills that only a conservative found in a escorts black book could love is a douche bag.
"BUT" should he fired for this...No
As bad as it is that would be just one more freedom taken from you and I. There's bigger issues to tangle with than "PUBLIC" radio.
While some were mulling over media trends the Tops court in the nation just gave all police officers who wish to chase down a criminal in their patrol car and might accidentally kill your kid or mine a FREE PASS from law suits from neglect.

Imus had been warned quite a few times that such language was unacceptable and he ignored the warnings. In my book that is grounds to be fired. As for mush loosebowels, yes 22 million people can be wrong if those 22 million don't think for themselves and let a big fat drug addled blowhard tell them what to think. They aren't called ditto heads for nothing.

When mush was off the air and in drug rehab (wink wink wink) one local ditto head said on TV..."now that he is off the air I don't know what to think anymore"
I wouldn't go around admitting that in public if I were him.

Mush can most certainly be fired by the radio stations that subscribe to his show. If enough of them said that they had had enough of this ignorant, pompous blowhard he would disappear from the air waves overnight and society would move forward.
