Looks like the quake is back! This happened within the last hour according to the USGS maps. I'm sure there will be more breaking news associated with this during the next hour.

Looks like the one that happened recently was a 5.1... still unclear.

The more I look at this, the more unclear I am... still digging. I am NOT a quake expert.

EDIT: You know, I think I am sooo wrong about another big quake...

EDIT: NO HUGE QUAKE - FALSE ALARM. There have been a lot of quakes since the big one a day or two ago. This recent one was a 5.5. MY BAD!!

Evennn though I was dead wrong about there being another huge quake, I am noticing that there have been a ton of quakes since then. Normal? Just aftershocks? Jeez I feel stoopid after all this.

It has been mentioned in the news today that another small quake has occurred in the Solomom Islands but there is NO alert for Australia at this time.

Sad to hear many lives have been lost in the islands

:S Poor people...

It must be scary with all those afterquakes.

5.5 what is that classified as in strength? Moderate/mild quake or something like that?

No sense in feeling stoopid, hey you jumped the gun a bit and posted without the full story. Still was worth reading.

I don't know much about earthquakes and aftershocks but if I was near that area I would be looking for a way to leave!

You know, I'm not real sure. I know everybody considered that 8.1 the other day as a huge one. I get the feeling that the 5's are moderate.

EDIT: Found some goodies on your question, flice!

Class-------Magnitude
Great.............8 or more
Major.............7 - 7.9
Strong............6 - 6.9
Moderate........5 - 5.9
Light..............4 - 4.9
Minor.............3 -3.9

Thanks. I guess thats what I get for not understanding those USGS maps too well. lol I saw a big red dot on the map, and a when I clicked, I saw 8.1 magnitude. (little did I know that I clicked a nearby box, and not the red one)

Anyways, you live and learn I guess. lol At least we were able to catch this one early on. I just wish there was a MOD awake right now to fix the thread title. lol

Cool thx

I think I saw something on Discovery once where moderates quakes are the ones which break the occasional window and minor structural damage?
Anyways, still awe inspiring
