Mouse tests show stem cells treat brain disease

A multi national groups of scientist has shed new light on the activity of stem cells in mice that had been bred to have brain and nerve disease. THe stem cells helped to take over from damaged neurons and lived 70% longer than thier untreated counterparts. They hope to use the research to begin gearing up for human trials in children afflicted with the incurable brain disease known as "Sandhoff disease"

They also think the process could be used to treat Parkinsons, ALS, and alzheimers

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Human stem cells taken from both embryos and fetuses delayed a fatal brain and nerve disease in mice, moving throughout the brain to take on the jobs of damaged neurons, scientists reported on Sunday.
