Girls Who Said 'Vagina' During Monologues Suspended

www.wmur.com:80

CROSS RIVER, N.Y. -- A Westchester, N.Y., public high school has suspended three 16-year-old girls for saying the word "vagina" during a reading from "The Vagina Monologues."

John Jay High School Principal Richard Leprine said the girls were punished because they disobeyed orders not to say the word "vagina." The school is in Cross River.

This is incredible. The girls were prohibited from saying a word descriptive of the female anatomy? How uptight can these school officials be?

Anyone seen last Family Ties episode of Stargate SG-1(loved Teal'cs face :p) or actualy seen the vagina monologues?

If she only said it once then they either banned her immediatly or she said it about 500 times in the first 2 minutes :p

I wonder what word the school would have wanted her to use instead, because removing it would shorten the recital by about 60%.

Its kinda stupid of the school to allow her to recite the monologues in the first place imho, if you wana be so uptight you don't want the word vagina used yet still allow the monologues to be featured, its almost like police officers baiting and pushing people to arrest them.

Wtf, why were they allowed to read from a book called 'The Vagina Monologues' if they weren't even allowed to say the bloody word!?

That doesn't make sense lol it's like saying you can read an excerpt from the bible but we'll punish you if you say anything religious.

Hoo boy - I wonder what happens when it comes time for Biology and Sex Education in that school.

Ridiculous - and another reason if I ever have kids they're getting homeschooled.

where the hell are these ppl coming from? Last I checked "vagina" is part of the female anatomy. (a good one too) It can be a learning experience for some.. I guess no one at that school learns about penis and vagina in health class.

A lot of people think the words penis and vagina are vulgar. I've always thought their attitude was more a reflection of themselves rather than those who use proper medical terminology. More people seem to be against the word vagina than penis though.

Vagina.

I love that word, so much better than it's variations.

Down right stupid if you ask me. I for one would rather hear the word then its description said each time.

"The passage leading from the opening of the vulva to the cervix of the uterus in female mammals."

Yup I will take the word each and every time, however I would tend to think the girls could have embarrassed the principal had they used the description.

vagina, vagina, VAGINA, [size=14]VAGINA...

Say it loud, and say it proud
There is nothing wrong with this word, and there's nothing wrong with what it means. And it's certainly not a word that should be hidden from students of any age.

If you can't even use the proper name for a cootch, what the hell are you supposed to call the damn thing.

Really, this has gone too far.

That's just plain ridiculous!
What's next?
Kids won't be able to say "intestines"
or
"pancreatic islets"
or
"smooth or rough endoreticulum" (take your pic)
or
penis?

This whole political correctness is getting way out of hand.
And in all seriousness, we only have the tight-ass super-conservatives (and I'm not talking about republican/democrat nonsense, just so you know) to thank for all of this.
So, when a young girl goes to the nurse (or doctor or whatever), what is she supposed to say?
And god help her if she has to go to the gynocologist.
She might have to be fined or put away in a detention center.
So freakin' stupid!

(hehehehe.....penis....hehehehe)

Yeah! This is just ridiculous. This action (suspension) definitely has gone too far.

I wonder what would have happened if she had said the slang equivalent of that word.

So much for the 1st amendment.

The religious freaks strike again. Is terminology like this banned during biology lessons?

How can they get away with it, if that happened here, the head teacher would be suspend immediately.

Hang on, I thought the point was rather well made!!

In fact, my first post on this thread, removed as it was, had a point about Victorian ideals influencing society today.

My point about teenage pregnancies? Ruthlessly rubbed out!
