china could have pulled the plug on kimmy boy anytime. They didnt because they were trying to oppose the US. They let NK be the tail that wagged the dog. They didnt care either..

In some ways the situation with North Korea has been beneficial to the US as well. The threat has allowed them to keep 35,000 stationed there and have a huge presence in the area.

China demands US cancel planned missile sale to Taiwan

BEIJING - China demanded Friday the United States scrap a planned sale of hundreds of missiles to Taiwan, warning the deal would harm regional stability and bilateral ties.

"We solemnly demand the leader of the United States... immediately cancel this weapons sale (and) avoid harming the peace and stability of the Taiwan Straits and Sino-US relations," foreign ministry spokesman Qin Gang said.

The ramifications for this could be severe.

The reason why China took its time over North Korea was the fear of breaking the country, which would of resulted in mass immigration.

As I said before, America really should not get involved in areas that have nothing to do with them. Majority of the world have showed China respect and stayed out of the whole Taiwan issue.

Americans should not fear a war with China, but fear China dragging the States into an arms race that could potentially break the United States economy.

I still stand by my theory that China is testing the US economy now and again because China wants to give that debt back.

Things aren't as peachy in China as some would have you believe. Their "one child" policy is a disaster in the making. There are now MILLIONS of Chinese men who have no female counterparts to marry and reproduce with. Unless they are going to become the first Gay Superpower, then we don't have much to worry about in the future with regards to China.

Not to mention the fact that they are building 1800's-style factories and smoke-stacks all over the place. They are destroying their air and plundering their resources at a pace that makes the US look like Green Peace. Sooner or later their bubble is going to burst and they won't be able to sustain their growth and feed their people.

Of course, the US isn't helping matters much. With such a huge trade gap and the fact that we spend soooo much money in China, we are making for the first time ever an economically viable communist state. It remains to be seen what China's future looks like. But with the US as their biggest trading partner, we're the devil they need. And with a huge appetite for cheaply produced products, they're the devil we need.

Do you guys honestly think that the West/US would go to a full scale war over Taiwan? I dont think so somehow. Rightly or wrongly, Taiwan is Chinese territory.

wotan is right we dont have the numbers for an invasion but we wouldnt have to they wouldnt be capable of stopping us from launching air strikes round the clock

You can't compare Iran which sits thousands of miles away from our doorstep to supplying a country literally at someone elses feet. We should not be getting involved. Lets see what Bush would have to say if China supplied a country like Cuba with a boatload of ICBM's. THAT would be something to compare to not Iran to Taiwan.

I believe the US could "defend" taiwan from the chinese military. We're not invading china. Though With our conventional military we could destroy the chinese conventional military and its cities without to much of a problem. Trying to occupy mainland china is a whole different scenario.

China more then likely will become a democratic nation by the year 2015 and break up into several different nations. Taiwan will go its own way while the 32 other provinces go their own separate ways..

China is a nation of cheap labor making them depend to much on exports. Right now it is the chinese population that is making china right now. But as has been stated china is suffering from a demographic change in scenery. There are more men then there are women. And china has a rapidly ageing population. Because of this, China has a massive debt. China’s funding gap for social security, medical care, pensions, etc., is the government’s debt. The demographics dont look good for china at all. Factor in china is the worlds largest polluter of industrialized pollution and you have a huge environmental problem as well. The deserts in china are only expanding. China is running out of arabal land. Where will most of its food come from in order to feed 1.5 billion ppl? Outside the country. China is also due to surpass the US in Green house gas emissions by 2009. 70-85% of rivers and lakes in china are deemed to hazardous to drink and fish out of. Some 300 million ppl drink contaminated water every year in china, which is a fairly conservative estimate given the severity of the problem mixed with a large population.

China Deserts Eat Up Arable Land - Environmentalist
www.waterconserve.org...

China is pretty much close to its peak right now. The future doesnt look so great...

Also..People seem to be forgetting the 1979 pact that we the US have with taiwan. As does Japan and Australia. We are obligated to defend the taiwanese ppl.

Yes, I've read about this disaster in the making, too. That was a great example of forward thinking, no? And
"the first gay superpower" really had me laughing. Oh, the jokes and one-liners ...

So, best or worst case, depending on your view, is a strong china for a couple generations at most and then a huge population crash. Something may be developing here. Aids is depopulating a large part of africa, and now, well, china is possibly depopulating themselves.

the important thing too look at here though is WHY would china demand us not give missiles to tai-wan

Okay, lets take a look at Taiwan, China and the US.

Taiwan has only a few miles of water seperating it from Mainland China. If the Chinese wanted to take Taiwan, they could easily do it in probably a few hours/days, before the US/West could even react to it.

The US/West would be extremely foolish to threaten China with the Nuclear Weapon card. Why go to nuclear war over a small Island that really has no interest to the US apart from the fact that its a thorn in China's side? It would not make sense.

No-one is going to economically sanction China as she is the biggest importer of foreign goods and has the world's fastest growing economy. Any country that 'boycotts' importing goods to China is economically cutting their own throat.

China is no fool. They dont plan in 5 yr and 10 yr plans, but in 20 yr and 50 yr plans. They know exactly what they are doing and the World is falling into their hands.

The US should stop playing being the 'playground bully', it could about to get a 'bloody nose'. You poke a stick long enough at a snake, its gonna bite you.

Because china wants to have its own influence in the region. It is the wage of the superpower to be envied. Others weaker vie for its influence and attention (china)

china isnt planning anything....lets say we sell those weapons to taiwan.....then we sell them f-16 and f-118 and m1 abrams and if it at any point looked like china was trying to take over the world.....yes america would nuke china.....until it glowed....then we'd shoot it in the dark

yo wotan

china had a war games scenario and I believe it took them about 1 month to take the island. It wasnt without a heavy loss either. A war would pretty much destroy chinas economy right now. And thats without the US military intervening.

Also your grossly overestimating (perhaps wishfully) china and its abilities. you might have to end up paying more for T-shirts and toys. But as I have stated before china would lose the worlds greatest customer in the US at the same time. And if chinas economy doesnt grow at 7% or greater then china goes into a recession. Eventually collapsing the chinese economy..

THATS IT china doesnt want them to have missiles because of how much more it would take to invade taiwan they already know it would be a problem

I may well be overestimating China's capabilities, but do you want to take that risk?

The US/Western public would not have the stomach for another war, let alone one over Taiwan.

And why would the US want to 'piss off' the country with the largest population and military as well as the Muslim world? Are they (US Government) going for ''The most hated nation on earth ever'' title?

Incidently, I personally dont hate the American people, just your Politics.

And what would the rest of the world think of china if they attacked lil ole taiwan? The US could be the hero in any event. Either way it wont stop our obligation to protect taiwan from mainland chinese agression. Japan as well as australia would also be in on this conflict. So its hardly exclusively americas fight.
